He should! Think about the fact that yes he was small for a heavyweight, had a short reach and started at an older age than most heavyweights do and yet he never lost! He would tear his opponent down with brutal punches anywhere he could hit them and with his great power, they usually ended up knocked out as he had 43 kayo's in 49 fights and is the man who refused to lose because of his awesome training regimen. He had more guts, determination, stamina, and endurance than any fighter who ever lived. He also feared nobody in the ring. Once after retiring, Sonny Liston made a comment that he would have destroyed Rocky and Rocky replied "Let's get our gear and get in the ring now!" Rocky of course had amazing power sort of a Joe Frazier type except he was harder to hit than Joe with two hands equal in power. He wanted to fight at 188 lbs and could have easily been a 200 lb fighter if he would have chosen to do so which is something else a lot of people aren't aware of. Muhammad Ali while filming their computer fight had a lot of respect for Rocky and called him champ which let's you know something about the man. The Brockton Blockbuster was a great fighter and should be given a lot more respect than he gets!

He may be to you, and like most peoples opinion are based upon era, likes and dislikes of boxers style. The general consenous of the real boxing community has the Top Ten Heavyweights like this:

Ali
Louis

Jack Johnson
George Foreman
Jack Dempsey
Sonny Liston
Larry Holmes
Rocky Marciano
Lexox Lewis
Joe Frazier(t)
Mike Tyson(t)

These are in no particular order except Ali and Louis who are consenous1 and/or 2. Marciano is typically ranked around 5 by Boxing Historians and experts. Don't get me wrong I love the "Rock" and am presently reading a new book "Rocky Marciano- The Rock of Hard Times" but opinions of him being the Greatest Heavyweight of All Time are usually based upon race.

By some people. Marciano had so much talent but is oftern discredited because he was small for a heavyweight and he was white. Archie Moore who fought both said that if Marciano got ahold of Ali it would be over. Joe Frazier said Marciano would beat Ali.

Marciano punched like a bull. He could knock you out with a 2 inch punch. He also never tired.

Marciano did not have enough great fighters in his time is why the doubters try to discredit him.

I say for some people he will get the credit he deserves but some people are just haters.

I don't feel he was the greatest heavyweight of all time but he should be in the top ten anyway. I still can't imagine how a middleweight could match a full fledged heavyweights power such as the Brockton Blockbuster did but he did, he packed a wollop. Yes I do agree he should be in the ranking of one of the Greatest Heavyweight Champions of all time but there are still others that out did Rocky just out of pure skill. Granted his punchng power was awesome but as a skilled fighter he wasn't. To be effective he had to get in close and bang until the man dropped. Granted Rocky Marciano was undefeated that he has bragging rights to.

Rocky Marciano was the greatest heavyweight of his era. He barely makes the middle of the top ten on the blogbaba's all time great list. But Rock is in the top ten, which is a hugh compliment to his boxing ability, considering the greats he is listed with. He, like Holyfield was simply too small a man to the in the top three or four of the all time Greats.

Your answer is "no" Rock won't get the credit you think he deserves.

No, because even though he was better than Ali. Ali had the bigger mouth and drew attention to himself, that caused him a big fan base. Not only was Rocky a great fighter, But he was a class act and a gracious fighter. Ali had 5 losses Rocky never lost.

He won't be given the credit, but he IS the greatest heavyweight of all time. Ali just ran his mouth a lot.

I'll give you one man's opinion. Rocky Marciano is as great as Joe Louis and Muhammad Ali. They were all the greatest. So yes he was the greatest in alot of peoples opinions as I have seen in this boxing forum in the past. What gets him recognition is his KO percentage which is near the highest of all weight divisions. His punch could knock anyone out.

Hate to break this to you, but the answer is never. Marciano is arguably the most overrated fighter in the history of boxing. He was the best MANAGED heavyweight champ of all time.
To be great, you have to fight, and beat, great competition.
Marciano made only six defenses against over the hill or sub-par opposition.
In the absence of great competition, a fighter has to be judged on how he fared against the opposition put in front of him. Marciano struggled against the never weres and geriatrics he faced.
Compare that against a truly great fighter - Larry Holmes - also faced with a dearth of good opponents. He made TWENTY defenses against mostly young up and comers, most of which he dispatched with ease.

sure they did wrestle... Rocky Marciano became sixty seven years of age on the time, and then Jack Dempsey and Sylvester Stallone jumped contained in the hoop, and that all of them beat the ****... out of Don King! What do you imagine "Einstein"!!!
