A product on the market that can remove most spillages, markings, or spottings is called "Goof Off."
As usual, pre-test and follow the directions given. WD-40 works well in some situations too.

Why didn't you use a dropcloth to protect the carpet??
You can usually just pick it off after it dries but if you tried to get it out with a paper towel the paint might be too thin to pick off. You can try paint thinner but make sure it doesn't take the color out of your rug....try it out in a small area that you can't see (like the bottom of the closet).
For future reference...latex paint will come out with just water and a rag while it's still wet.

Keep it wet (even wit water0 and use a shop vac. Rinse and repeat until gone. Best way, I promise. There are other products out there but they can't get into the core of the fiber.
Hopefully you haven't let it dry!!!!
My daughter dumped a WHOLE gallon of white paint on my moms Green carpet. Got it ALL out with this method.

Believe it or not: WD40. Brother and I was tarring the roof and got tar on bedroom carpet. I was curious so I sprayed a bit of WD on the spot and it disappeared!
It also depends on what type of paint: water based or enamel.

DONT LET IT DRY!!!!! If it dries it will never come out! Call your mom, you need to rent a carpet shampoo machine that sprays water on and vacuums it back up. It's the only way.

If it's a water based paint, use detergent and water. If not, try acetone, which is your nail polish remover or thinner used for acrylic paints. Keep the windows open and do not smoke.

Try using natures miracle. It is usually found at pet supply stores. It is really good at getting out stains, maybe it will get rid of paint.
Good luck.
