I think that Valinor is only supposed to represent a heavenly place, not Heaven itself. The elves travelled there, too, and their religion isn't very Christian-like. I've heard that The Lord of the Rings has been thought of as a Christian allegory, but I don't think the author actually mentions Jesus or God.
