In dialysis you as a technician has to set up machines for nurses, do chlorine chlorimine tests, the nurses do not know how to do this test required by state. They just give medications. Now this is not found in the policy and procedure manual, but it is a core that the nurses give the techs everyday to do. You have to set the machines for the nurses and yourself, then do the water testing whisch includes the chlorimine. This is a dangerous test, why are techs doing it. I'd like to kow if the state recomends that the technicians do such a job.
the techs has no license for this and it is not in the policy and procedure manual.

It looks like there are two issues here: you feel unappreciated and you think chloramine checks are dangerous.

Well, let's get the chloramine test out of the way. I don't know what you were told, but there is nothing unsafe about it, unless you decide to snack on the chemical reagent. That's not to say it's not an IMPORTANT test to do. At our clinic, although the techs are the ones who do the test, everyone is trained to be able to do it.

As for being unappreciated, that is an issue to bring up with your facility/nurse manager. It is a serious problem that needs to be resolved before techs start quiting. One thing that I think helps with that in my area is that before a nurse can start working in a dialysis facility, he/she first gets trained on doing the technicians' job. I think this helps them appreciate what we do for them, and also when we're short staffed, it means the nurses can step in and help.

Not every clinic is like this, but at our clinic we try to foster a team atmosphere (I know how cheesy that sounds). If anyone needs help, just step in and help. If you need help, don't be afraid to ask. We used to have people work at our clinic who didn't like to help others, and they basically didn't feel like they belonged and quit, which may seem harsh, but was good for the team. A big part of that is having nurses who are part of the team and help out. On your part, it would help not to be so negative about certain job duties.

That would be something that you should direct to the company or hospital group or university that run or provide staffing to the facility.Every state is different, state board's of nursing require different scope of practice for the RN's in that state.Dialysis tech's are the same, each state requires different levels of education and scope of practice.Take care. relies upon on the wellbeing practitioner thoroughly. maximum medical doctors be attentive to that nurses could make their jobs the two complication-free or difficult by way of fact the nurse is the only with the affected person each and all of the time - so as that they behave subsequently. and while medical doctors are new and in residency for 3 years, they place self belief in the know-how of the nurses to help them by! Nursing college is extremely difficult and so maximum nurses are truly smart.

Does that mean you feel they don't appreciate your job? Well, if that is it, Remember that verse of Desiderata that said "Keep good relations with the rest of people, whenever it is possible" and "Listen even to the ignorant, they have their own truth"
