SO my wife has her work permit and Green card, we had noticed early Jan that her Green card expired on the 15th, we sent all the paper work in to renew it and was quite parinoid cuz it was late. anyway 3 weeks later we get a letter from them saying that we didn't need to file and that its next year. So could this just have been a mistake on her card? Or is this common?

And what are we supposed to do if they are saying she is fine and still legit, but her card says something else???

I would make an infopass appointment and take the letter you received from USCIS and your wife's greencard to straighten out the situtation. Obviously somewhere a mistake was made. If your wife's greencard expired in Jan, and the expiry date on the card was 2 years from issue date, then you did indeed need to file to remove the conditions and USCIS sent you the letter in error.

well let me tell you this...If she already have a green card=Residence card is the card that expires every 10 years means she don't need to apply or renew her work permit...Read very well this because I am a citizen now and I know what I am saying...If she got her Residence card the one that expires every 10 years she don't never need to renew every year her work permit anymore thats why she got her Residence car=Green card...I hope trhis help...Green card= Legal Residence card is the one that probes that she can work and live legally here in the States...I don't why that person say that she needs to renew it next year...Because is not truth....A work permit is the one you get at first when you haven't get you green card...So I do recommend to go to an office that have experience in inmigration status for you to confirm that what I say is the truth...

thats a tough question, we havent gotten to the point where my husband's greencard has expired. But I would do exactly what you did, its never good to assume that they would let you renew after the expiration date!
