Because the major paintings were done by Europeans, so they made Him look like themselves. Notice many have distinctly European backgrounds, too.

They were painted at a time when few people went to the Holy Land and few books existed. They were painting for a European audience and wanted them to relate to Him.

More recent paintings have just followed that tradition.

Every now and then, I see a darker Jesus with short hair. Yeah!

BTW, He also was not good-looking--but who would gaze at a pic of a homely man? But Isaiah said that He would not be good-looking so that we would not desire Him. We would have to follow Him for Who He was, not for what He looked like.

Nobody has the slightest idea of whay Jesus looked like. No drawings of him were ever made, no description of him was ever mentioned by anyone who knew him.
We don't know if he was bald, if all of his teeth were rotted out, if he was short and fat or skinny as a broom handle.
For that reason, the painters of fourteen hundreds years later used their imaginations. Naturally they were very religious people so they made their God quite nice looking.
Those who disagree with the paintings are free to picture Jesus in any way they care to. Make a painting, label it Jesus. You want black hair ? Fine, make it black. You want a black beard full of sheep grease ? Okay with me. You don't like blue eyes ? How about blood-shot ?

Young squirrel,
I believe that if you take a look at the artsit you will find that they too were of European Descent and probably think of HIM in that manner. I know that a number of children think of Santa Clause ias being a member of their own race. Why would we be any different? It is certainly not right but it is generfally so in our society. I am sorry if this offended you in any manner, it was not meant to. Read, study, obey GOD's WORD, and have a Great DaY.
Thanks,
Eds

I think of it has something to do with people imagining God to look like they do. White Europeans have been doing the portray so they made Jesus a white ecu. I think of Asians have portrayed him as Asian. i be attentive to there have been photos of a black Jesus. on a similar time as we don't be attentive to what he looked like He likely looked plenty because of the fact the persons of the middle east do right this moment. truthfully nevertheless i'm no longer actual in contact how He seems. in simple terms what He did.

For the same reason that artists seem to paint historical situations and clothe the people in contemporary clothes. Its just a convention. And I have to admit to being amazed at your ability on the keyboard, better than a lot of the humans here. I always thought squirrels rocked!

I am 52 years old and a Christian and I have never seen a picture of his likeness as being blue eyed or blond hair ,and have never noticed anything unusual about his nose so you must be wrong.
But in Africa i am sure an African will paint a picture of Christ as being black.I don't care what shade he was personally .its what he had to say is what i pay attention to.

Because Jesus wants to say everyone of us is a good soul like Him.I saw a picture with Jesus blond-haired, then black haired..either with blue eyes, either green eyes, either black eyes.

It's not always, but quite often. There are images showing oriental, middle-eastern, black and even Native american forms of Jesus. It's just that the paintings weren't meant to be historical, but artistic impressions, and artists often use models. As Jesus wasn't around for a sitting, artists likely chose models close to them. It's just art and not historyl.

Because they were painted by Europeans with European models; plus the guy on the Shroud of Turin seems to have a roman nose.
Or maybe it's an EVIL RACIST CONSPIRACY!

I've seen the holy family depicted with Asians, Africans, and Middle Eastern. So your question has a fatal flaw of absolutism.

People relate to God.
