I have this dropping feeling as I drop of to sleep it can be very frightening. I know it's anxiety with me. I don't have it during the day, I really don't think it's serious, you mention your on anti depressants.. Could it be anything to do with them.
I hope you get piece of mind soon. Good luck

Yes I'm sure you can get a brain scan privately but ask yourself this - what are you going to do when/if it comes back clear? Because I'm fairly certain your doctor and psychiatrist know what they are talking about and wouldn't deny you a brain scan if they felt you truly had a neurological problem.

If you are in pain and your doctor can't/wont offer you pain relief to help, or you feel they aren't taking your problem seriously, you can get a second opinion or follow a complaints procedure.

I'm not a doctor but I do have a brain disease - I'm not sure but I very much doubt a brain scan will show anything to do with hormone levels.

Even if the scan did show up something, brain disease is rarely curable and can only be treated with the types of medication you are possibly taking already.

Anything Hormonal normally shows up with blood tests. Which I hope your doctor has sent you for. Yes you can go private to have a brain scan. You could try to contact BUPA or private hospitals who will be able to guide you in the correct direction. It will cost you a serious amount of money though. If you feel that way, then you should be persistent with your G.P. and request a the scan. Good luck

Doctors do not always know what they are doing. The best thing to do is find another highly qualified specialist. I don't know about the British health system but here in the US you have a right to find a doctor that will satisfy you. Some doctors are too fast to call someone a psycho.

I don't understand what you mean by dropping. Paying for your own scan will not do you any good. You need a doctor to request tests and to diagnose the results.

There has to be a medical reason for the scan to be performed and it has to be asked for by a medical health practitioner i.e. a doctor.
It then has to be able to show that something is wrong so it can be put right.
Hormones don't show up on CT or MRI scans.
Panic attacks don't originate from your chest but from your head as you are thinking irrationally and their effect is demonstrated in physical reactions.

Only if your GP feels there is a justification for the scan being performed in the first place. Thank the Lord we have not yet reached the daft situation that exists in some countries where a patient with no medical knowledge and a few bob to waste just picks out a test he/she fancies with a pin and has it done, however inappropriate!

Hormone levels are determined via blood tests and not brain scans. A brain scan could be arranged via Bupa (private health care) available throughout the UK but it would be very expensive, you would be looking at a few thousand at least.

I agree with Princess insofar as you require a blood test, not a brain scan. I also agree that BUPA are the people to approach, but I think you're talking hundreds, not thousands of pounds for a brain scan. A blood test would be considerably cheaper.

Even for a private scan you need a referral from a doctor.

I think you need to take the doctors' advise as they have trained for years and would know if you really need it.

Do you know how much it costs the NHS for a brain scan?
£1000+.

I think they have better things to be spending their money on rather than just to put your mind at rest.
