If they could somehow prove that the accused has sufficient funds to provide themselves with legal representation then they might deny them a public defender.

If this is not the case, then it is probably motivated by race or class. Unfortunately just because those aren't supposed to be factors, doesn't mean that they don't show up anyway.

When I lived there in the early 90s, Cobb county had 1,100 registered lawyers. That may be just another "legal" ploy of everlasting BS and lies the judicial system uses. Did you know that in Marietta if you get caught without insurance you do straight to jail even if you were on your way to get insurance?

There is no reason someone would be denied a public defender unless they had the means to afford one on their own.

Usually the only time a public defender is appointed by the court is if the State is seeking jail time or if the defendent is indigent.
