Spoil him, give him lots of TLC. If you see that he is in a lot of pain, put him down. I know that it'll hurt you, but it's what's best for the cat. I know that I wouldn't want to see my little guys in a lot of pain. Good luck.

Am very sorry for your situation as I know it is extremely hard. However, my cat's cancer was detected on a Friday. I asked the vet how I would know when it was time. The vet told me I would just know. On a Sunday she was in so much pain I took her to a 24 hour emergency clinic and had her put to sleep. Yes, it killed me to do that and I miss her dearly and still cry when I talk about her, but I know in my heart she knew I loved her and was doing the very best thing for her. Good luck. Please do not make your cat suffer because of selfishness.

I am so sorry for you cat's illness. I had a cat who lasted less than two weeks after he fell ill from cancer. This is what I did for him.
I opened all draperies during the day in case he wanted to lie in a sunbeam.
I lined all his favorite sleeping places with old towels and blankets.
I would attempt to play with him once in a while. I would drag a string under his nose. More often than not, he was amused only enough to paw at it a couple of times, but he seemed to enjoy a couple of seconds worth of the game.
I placed some of my kid's stuffed animals on his sleeping areas to he could smell the people he loved near him.
Extra pettings and talking to him always seemed to bring out the best purrs in him.
What I wrote was for his comfort. Now here's something for you to bring comfort when your kitty does slip away:

You don't say what type of cancer your cat has. I have two cats now with cancer - one bladder cancer and one with oral cancer in his jaw.
There is a Yahoo group for feline cancer and I have started one for the bladder cancer (it is a rare cancer in cats and we don't have many members). The regular cancer group if much larger.
You should join the group as the members there are dealing with many forms of cancer in cats and you can get your support, know what treatments or medications they are using for pain, etc.
I think that is the best source for you in gaining acceptance and getting support from others who are dealing with the same issues you have now and will have in future.

First im sorry to hear your babys fate..I had the same experience with my Twinkle 2 years back..When she came back from the vets, i was told there was nothing much i could do and i notice that Twinkle acts like theres nothing wrong with her...so rather than crying and blaming God, I pick myself up and spend time with her and knowing when she says Goodbye, i will feel that the last days were the best days of our lives. She died in my arms with a look that promoised me She will wait for me at the gates of Heaven...so make every single day a day to remember.Prepare yourself to take the lost and believe that a cats life on earth with its constant friend, that is you ,has a purpose and only we will know that purpose when we meet them again one day...
God Bless You.

My heart goes out to you...I just had to put my 13 year old baby to sleep two weeks ago, so I know what you're going through. He was suffering from strokes and related heart disease. My advice to you is to go to Walmart and buy one of those heated throw blankets and make a bed out of it. Cats love warm places to sleep and I know it made my cat much more comfortable during the final stages of his illness. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Love your cat, do the things your cat enjoyed most in his life. As in if he loved a sunny window seat, then put him in the sun for a bit and let him enjoy the sun rays, keep him close to you, if he liked to be near the heat, get an electric throw and put it in his bed, pet him and he will know you are there and be there for him till the end.

First of all, let me say I am deeply sorry for your situation; losing a pet is a very hard thing to go through.
My advice is just to comfort him. Give him treats, affection, and play. Act normally around him, too. Changing your ways now would freak him out (possibly). Spend alot of time with him, play with him, everything he enjoyed to do. But if his condition gets painfully worse, it may be best to get him put down.
Good luck, and again I am sorry. All you can do is be strong, for your pet and yourself.

I can't answer better than those who have. But try not to be too sad. Any cat over 10y/0 means they had a good life. You won't forget him ever, and once-in-a-while you'll feel his presence.
