1 Peter 3:5-6 ...They were submissive to their own husbands, 6.like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her master. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear.
Are Christian women really supposed to submit to their husbands and call them their "master". Does this disturb anyone else?

Schneb, I have to disagree with you. My husband and I have a secular marraige full of respect for each other. If I felt I needed to "submit" to him or if he even let me, I wouldn't feel respected.
We've been married 5 years and got married at 18 and 19. The odds were against us, but it's been wonderful.

Mibandibe, what is wrong with women wearing the pants? In every relationship it is different. Sometimes the women are more efficient at running the household depended on the individuals in question.

Yeah, I find it disturbing. But, I'm not surprised. You know, the bible is manmade and was changed and some verses rewritten to suite whatever issue they wanted to address at the time. It's something you are supposed to believe in completely yet can't because of all the revisions and lies they did to it!

In Ukrainian, the word translates more into "listen carefully" to your husband. The idea of submitting was a medieval and Latin thing. Also, the word "submit" has had a different nuance to it since then. Submitting in medieval times was not a bad thing, but a means of keeping order, and a connotation of self-control added to it.
Allowing one person to "have power" over another actually is a very humbling experience for the "master" rather than the other way around. The responsibility of succeeding or failing is entirely on that person's shoulders.
I have come to appreciate my husband as "my master", although I would never call him that. It simply means that I appreciate him for what he does for me and our children. We both know that if he was taken away, a great deal of our riches would go with him. So inwardly, I do appreciate him as such, but he also listens to my input, as he is also wise. LOL

Well, yes we are to submit, but I do not know anyone who calls her husband her master, only because of the times we live in.
But we should be submissive and say yes to our husbands when they ask something of us. That is what God wants of us.
This day an age is completely twisted because the woman seems to wear the pants in the marriage, and that is not biblical, it just goes to show that this world is getting worse and that many fall away from the truth of God's word and would rather please themselves, rather than the creator-- Romans 1:25--so true!

If you take a look at the ralationship between Sarah and Abraham you will see that Sarah did not sit by and give in to everything Abraham asked. Quite the opposite if Abraham was doing something wrong Sarah would quickly let him knowand would throw "sanctified fits.",

Marriage is a type of Christ and the church. If you were married to someone who loved you like Christ loves the church, you would have no problem with this.
In a secular marriage, you will not find this order. Perhaps that is why divorce is so rampant.
I'm sure as someone who is in the outside looking in, this would look disturbing. But not to those who are inside the body of Christ. This kind of marriage is awesome.

Ephesians 5:22-24, Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
Sounds really sexist doesn't it? But if you continue reading, there is much much more to it:
Verses 25-33
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church— for we are members of his body. "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
Husbands are to build their wives up loving them as themselves...Presenting them as a radiant church, which is a beautiful expression to me...would you submit to that?
