It doesnt feel like an ear ache, when this first started happening I was told it was because I slept on my ear wrong, well I cant even lay on my ear now and it still hurts when I put any kind of pressure on my ear. I dont think its ear wax build up cause when I clean my ear there is nothing in there. This is getting frusterating especially cause its my right ear and thats the side I sleep on but I cant cause it hurts! Please help!

I don't think you have an ear ache. I think it's TMJ (Temporo-Mandibular Joint located in your jaw). A lot of times, it is mistaken for ear pain. TMJ occurs when you clench your jaw or grind your teeth in your sleep. It is easily remedied with an over the counter mouth guard that you can buy in a sporting goods store or pharmacy.

You can have a cyst in your ear which if you go to the doctors, they can easily spot. It can also be caused by a vessel in the ear swelling up. I have had this happen and it seriously hurts. Again, your doctor can take a peak inside your ear and determine whether or not this is the cause. It can also be a nerve in your ear that is acting up for whatever reason.

If you suspect it is a nerve, you might want to try and put a hot heat compress on it to try and relax it. If it is a cyst in your ear, it may take some time before the cyst breaks open and in the mean time, it can be quite painful. Hot compresses also aide in bringing the cyst to a head so it will open. If it is a swelling vein, you will need an icepack to reduce the vein's swelling.

Many times the "you slept on your ear wrong" is used as a catch all excuse because the pain is unexplainable and therefore, it is something to tell you. If you have gone to your doctor and your doctor can't seem to find the reason why, ask to be referred to an ENT specialist.

Likely to be trigger points (below). It would be good to make sure your are aligned properly (chiropractor). If it were a short term thing I would tell you to bake (or microwave) and onion and use the juice as eardrops 2-3 per ear. Onion is in the garlic family and has the same curative qualities but is easier to get to. Plan on a shower in the morning it does smell and leaves a film when it drips out.

Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas (natural muscle relaxers) daily - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.

Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.

The cure - start with a professional massage, (if this does not do it you probably need a chiropractor as well) you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. The place where the skull connects to the spine press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).

For more information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches what to do and where the pain comes from.
