I sent normal sized and weighted envelope (39cent stamp) through regular mail (dropped it off at a mail box on my street) on Sunday Febuary 25th. It is going from LA to Houston. It has not yet arrived.

What is the max amount of time it will take to get their before I should consider it lost?

The max amount of time could be years or never. But I would wait 4 weeks and then start looking.

I would say give it a few more days.

Remember we had some severe weather all across the US lately (from Minnesota to Alabama) and the mail system could be backed up.

I sure it was sorted locally and flew to some mail hub to be sent to Houston. Planes don't get cleared to fly if the airport is iced in.

Well, most of the time your not supposed to put packages through reg.mail. If it's been more than seven days (which it has) I would declare it lost. Or speaking differently you could think that it's stuck or damaged so it is now taking longer for it to arrive (it's a big probability), it happened to me one time, though, when my sister sent me a birthday card (it got stuck), it didn't arrive until two weeks after she sent it.

coast to coast 4-6 days max. But the real answer is, did the postal worker who dropped it behind the counter pick it up?
