The babies were born on February 1st. They will be 5 weeks old this week. So far so good.....but I'm afraid of having to do the inevitable; separating them from their mom as I find them homes. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I've become emotionally attached to them too...so any hints on how to help the mom's mom would be nice. :-)

The babies have to be at least 8 weeks old before you give them away. Mama cat will not hurt as much as YOU will. I know first hand cause our mama cat had 5 babies last year. We did keep one, a playmate for each other, but cried like a baby myself when the other 4 babies left.
A glass of wine wouldn't hurt either when the babies leave. lol

I'm in the same boat. My cat gave birth a few days ago and I'm trying so hard not to get attached to the one we are giving away. (My cat only had 2 kittens thank goodness!)

I do suggest keeping at least one kitten.

you do know I hope that they can not leave until 8 weeks. and do it one at a time. you will find it a lot easier.
I cried when I had to sell my pups, an made sure I didn't say the word puppies where the mom could hear it.

They can not be away from their mother before they are 8 weeks old, that is the youngest they can be OK without her. As far as the emotional aspect perhaps keep one?

If you spayed your cat then this would not be an issue. Are you aware of how many kittens don't have homes because of overpopulation

well like all animals you slowly feed the kittens soft food and still give them milk occasionally as they get older they will want the solid foods.

Yank them away and put the mom in the closet and lock the door. I'd like to see that stupid cat get out.

the kittens and their mom should separate with little or no problem. as for you, "Grandma", ask for visitation rights.
