Candida is a species of unicellular fungus that causes candidiasis (also called candidosis). Candidiasis is an infection caused by any species of Candida, usually Candida albicans. Candidiasis may be caused by Candida albicans, glabrata, guilliermondii, krusei, lusitaniae, pseudotropicalis and stellatoidea. These all begin with the word "Candida". There may be more but this is all I can recall. Certain Candida can also cause Candida pneumonia, endocarditis and Candida peritonitis.
