Global Warming puzzles me. I don't actually know if it is an environmental issue worthy of concern or not. And I have a Social Ecology degree from Murdoch University and have studied it.

There was a phenomenon which was most apparent in the 1970s and 80s, where scientists would make quite wild claims to gain attention just to get recognition and funding.

I have read but don't know whether it is true that In the 1970's the science community were convinced (according to scientific articles and newspapers) that GLOBAL COOLING was occuring. This went on for years apparently.

I think you know what I'm getting at.

Anyway I hope that Global Warming is not true. But degradation of our world (such as pollution, loss of forrests, animal species becoming extinct etc...) goes on all the same due to our unsustainable lifestyle.

We are clearly the most destructive animal on this planet, which proves we are not as smart as some people suggest we are.

If you look up any global temperature chart on the net, you'll find the earth's temperature has increased by about 6/10 of one degree (C) - that's 1.1 degree (F) in the last 125 years. So yes, the globe is warming up, but it's not overheating like some would have you to believe.

The latest research shows that the methane from cows and pigs is a major factor in the increase of "heat trapping gas". It's actually 23 times more potent as a heat trapping gas than is carbon dioxide. http://gliving.tv/news/global-warming-culprits-cars-and-cows/

So if Al Gore and all the alarmists really want to do something about climate change, they MUST become vegetarians and shut down cow and pig farms. I mean seriously, if they trully believe that global warming is as disastrous as they are preaching then they need to stop eating meat, period! I seriously doubt that will happen.

Al Gore preaches to you to conserve, but he does not practice it himself. He uses 20 times more energy in his Nashville mansion than the national average. http://www.knoxpages.com/forum/topic.asp?FORUM_ID=9&TOPIC_ID=8741&PagePosition=1
One thing he has not learned is that you MUST practice what you preach... at some point you will get caught as he has.

Below is a site to show the global temperature change.

Not in the sense that many people do. I happen to believe that it is a cycle of warming and cooling, that the earth goes through every so often. That it is not caused by human emissions, and that it's not the end of the world, just a phase.
I do however think it is quite funny that every time the talking heads who support Global Warming schedual a meeting to discuss it, they get snowed out.
It seems that God has a sense of humor.

I think the climate is warming, but that it's far more likely to be caused by the natural changes in solar radiation.

I am trying to conserve energy, both for the budget's sake and for our future's sake.

Even if global warming isn't happening, it makes sense to make your house and car energy efficient; it helps the budget, it makes oil last longer, and it may protect you from political backlash if global warming hype goes hysterical, which it could.

When I was a kid 79-85, we still had snowy winters where I live

It´s all over... so if the earth is not warming, explain me what is going on ! It´s obvious the earth is heating up.

Do you know how much coal do we burn a year ? We are speaking about 6,000,000,000 metric tons per year !!! Standing next to that, I don´t know what would be big enough to compare.

I'm not saying that it is/isn't happening, but I find it absolute hypocritic when celebs talk about 'Global Warming' and how it needs to be stopped/do your part/yada yada, when they are out there driving Hummers, being catered around in limos, buying huge mansions that only God knows how much their electric bill is, etc.,
It'd be one thing if they gave back (which a lot do) but I don't see any of them riding the bus.

I believe its actually happening, and that its due to the burning of fossil fuels. I also believe that 99% of the proposed responses to it are total wastes of time, including, at the present time, solar and wind power each of which have major Achilles Heels (do I need to type them out?)

I will personally do absolutely NOTHING to help other than be an advocate for nuclear fission power. You and Al Gore and Leo DiCaprio can enjoy your advocacies and I'll enjoy mine.

So there.

Do I believe it is happening...yes. Do I think man has much, if anything to do with it...doubtful. Nonetheless, we've been taught since childhood to clean up our room, and that should apply to our environment...as long as it is reasonable and backed by sound science.

I think it's probably happening, but I'm not at all convinced that manmade activities are the sole or even the primary cause. Nor do I believe that it's going to be the disaster that the environmental alarmist groups are saying it will be. I think it's just something we'll have to learn to adjust to.

Yes!

I don't drive, but use public transit. It's all about taking little personal steps to help the environment.
