Sand and seal! Simple! Lots of work though! Dust will get all over so you must drape the rooms with plastic! Cover the vents and any other thouroughfares!

Hire someone to come in and sand them, stain them so they are a uniform color, and put multiple layers of polyurethane on them to seal them, preferably while you are on vacation in a tropical location.
