Yeah... Spelling isn't the point. I say Einstein is the Jesus of atheism. If you read closely, and without bias, you can see he only uses the word "god" as a metaphor. Although he doesn't use it at all in this next quote.
"I am a deeply religious nonbeliever. This is a somewhat new kind of religion. I have never imputed to Nature a purpose or a goal, or anything that could be understood as anthropomorphic. What I see in Nature is a magnificent structure that we can comprehend only very imperfectly, and that must fill a thinking person with a feeling of humility. This is a genuinely religious feeling that has nothing to do with mysticism.
The idea of a personal god is quite alien to me and seems even naive."
PS: Religion- a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices

~~~SMO,,, Respectfully,,, The fault in your theory is that you apply the same Religious Standards that you so obviously disdain. You're looking for an Atheistic Messiah or Saviour From Religion. What causes the elimination of ALL gods in history is the Evolution of The Collective Conciousness. ie: There came a time when Monotheism came into vogue, by the Ruling Class as always, and Polytheism came to be Understood & Accepted as a Foolish Notion,,, and Blasphemous. So just as Copernicus and Gallileo defied the Word of God, by their own Conscience(conviction) in Understanding Science, that the Divine Law of a Geocentric Universe was false as they proved it to be Heliocentric, in direct contradiction to "god's word". And now we know, irrefuteably, that we are in a Solar System that isn't even close to being in the center of our own Galaxy, The Milky Way. ,,,,And since the universe is expanding "outwards" it is impossible that we are in the "center" of anything. As you can see, it takes patience,,, and Knowledge to defeat Ignorance and the Fear of Superstition,,, but take care when challenging their only Sanctuary,,,,Faith.
Given Jesus' track record in building unity, I'm not certain we need someone modeld after his example. I'd be satisified just to remain a skeptical thinker without anyone to bury religion, but only to bury intolerance of alternative epistemologies.
Dawkins? Atheists don't need a Jesus. They are independent people.
