Do them and, possibly, yourself a favor...walk away, unless you can't. in that case try to pick out the biggest, toughest guy and take himout with one blow. The others will not want anything to do with you. Fighting multiple opponents at the same time only works in the movies.
As far as stances go, there is a slight difference between a boxing stance and a kickboxing stance. A boxer will place more weight on the front leg because he does not have to lift it to block or kick. A kickboxer's stance has the weight more evenly distributed so that either leg may be used offensively or defensively as needed.

A boxer uses angles to avoid blows, and doesn't rely upon so many blocking techniques.
In-fact I think there are really only two blocking techniques used in boxing (someone with more knowledge in boxing may correct me if I'm wrong), namely the traditional style and the "Philly" style.
Also in boxing you stand at more of an angle than you do in many of the traditional "hard" styles of martial arts, which makes you less of a target. You may not have all of the blocking techniques available, but in the boxers mind, if your stance and movement is correct, you don't need them.
As for your second question...
If they jumped you as a joke, then take it as a joke. In other words, why should you be provoked if it was a joke? Just have fun with it, and leave it at that.
If it were real, that's when you unleash a can of whoop @SS on them.

A boxers stance is only a more shallow version of a martial Arts fighting stance soas to give the fighter a better ability to move faster and lighter on his or her feet.
Well yes you could have used your Martial Arts to defend yourself considering the odds, but if they were just there taunting you, it's just better to keep walking because by fighting any of them just lets them know that they can get to you and piss you off.
the best thing to do in any situation like that is to walk away because all they're trying to do is look like a bada** in front of other people and show off.
you should only use your Martial Arts training if theres no other way to get out of the situation.
but as soon as the person(s) that is actin' the fool swings on you and breaks your personal space barrier (the point where your uncomfortable with them being too close to you) and then threatening you with an attack, then you have the right to defend yourself, but remember, as soon as you've neutralized the threat, your right to defend yourself will end. so you must be careful when dealing with people who're threatening you.

The boxers stance is very similar to other fighting styles. It allows them the best chance to beat the hell out of someone using there style. The lead foot forward to hit quick and set up the back power hand.
Don't let people touch you like that. It is dangerous. They may try to do something serious next time. Tell them you will report them if they ever do it again.

Of course a boxers stance is good, even kickboxers use it.
If they were playing, play back. If you do a grappling art, perhaps you could do an arm-lock here and there, but kicking and punching will not go over well.

always walk if that option is available. being laughed at or ridiculed for walking is nothing at all. because the people who have those opinions are less than sh!t on your shoe, and therefor their opinions are not worth the vote.
but if you cant, then destroy. there is NO SUCH THING as play fighting. you either fight or you dont. this needs to be told to others too. you can easily lose in a play fight, as you dont want to hurt anyone, so change your perspective. there is no such thing as a play fight.
if people jump you, friend OR foe, break them. never take chances. just ensure the damage is appropriate for the situation, but definitely make let your creative fighting juices flow.
dont give your opponent the data they need to understand you. so dont enter the fight looking like a karate fighter, etc. just like boxers, they flare up and you can see from the stance they are boxers, so you kick the fukers. dont play into an enemies strength if they show it to you. dont show your cards till its over. dont fight fire with fire, fight it with napalm.

1) Boxers aren't trained to defend against kicks, they would be vulnerable, particularly against low kicks.
2) It depends on the seriousness of the attack. If you were not in danger of being injured, you should show restraint, if there were a risk to you, by all means defend yourself.

u should just walk on because martial arts is to teach u discipline...especially if they might be playing around. dont go kill anyone with your martial art lol but for your first question, use your martial arts stance bcuz boxing stances are for BOXING not street fights, remember to keep guard on your legs bcuz people tend to grab your legs and pick you up in a street fight
