How old do you guys think, is too old for training cups? I personally despise seeing children over the age of three with them in their mouths, walking all over the house with them.

I completely agree, actually I think getting them into the habit of sitting down at the table for drinks is the best way to go. My son (now 4) was never allowed to roam around the house with them at all, he could get a drink whenever he wanted but he had to sit down at the table. Now I make him use cups with lids (not sippy cups) if he's having something that will make a sticky mess if he spills (he is always gesturing while eating and spilling!) but at least he doesn't run around the house with a sippy cup hanging out of his mouth LOL

Another thing that drives me crazy is when kids eat, then go play, then go back and eat some more, then go play...in our house you sit down and eat and if you get up...you're done. No running back and forth.

Our son, just turned two and really doesn't use them anymore. He is very independent and wants to use real glasses. I bought some cheap plastic glasses from target and they are small enough that they work for him. I agree with you and hate seeing children about the age of three with bottles or toddler cups. I think when they start showing interest in the big people cups let them try them. We rarely fill the glass about half full and our son is completely fine with it.

Good Luck!

I found cups with straws built into them that I used for my toddlers after they were around 2 or 2 1/2 it was just easier to keep the spills at bay. Now they are 5 and 6 and still drink out of cups with lids and straws. (Not the toddler type, they are big kid cups with characters) I have accident prone children and the lids just make my life a weeeee bit easier.

My daughters still use a sippy cup. Though when we are at the table eating they get a cup, but when they are having a snack, are in the living room, or we are out I give them sippy cup. I'm sorry but I don't want milk or anything all over my carpet or furniture, and when out it is just easier for in the car or whatever.

Um...didn't know there was an age limit to "training" cups. My girls used them til they were about 4. They used them more so we didn't have juice or milk all over the rugs throughout the house than they really needed them. They make great "safety" cups, and avoid messes. My children could drink out of regular cups by age 3 though. Sounds like you have the issue, not the children you see.

I work in daycare, at age two i would take some children off the training cups, obviously just the children who i think can cope with it. But they are always off them by age 3.

Children who walk around with bottles and dummies really annoy me, there is just no need for it and the longer they have them the more used to them they become and the harder it is to take them away. they should be kept for sleep time only after the age of around 14 months.

my step son is 3 and he still uses his sippy cup because he likes to run around the house and play and needs to have a drink. another reason that he still has it is because his toung is to big for his mouth and he has a hard time drinking from a regular cup right now. kids learn different things when thay are ready it is not that the parents are lazy.

I think training cups are totally unnecessary. They were invented to make the life of lazy parents easier. And if you don't want drinks spilled all over your furniture, then teach them to drink at the table or in the kitchen.

Just like everything else in child development, each child goes at his/her own pace. Why not spend all that wasted energy you put into despising this and put it to something useful? And besides if it is in someone ELSE'S house what business is it of yours?? Parent your own children, not other people's.

Give the poor kid a break let him have his sippy cup. Trust me he will drop it like a hot potato when he is ready and you will make him miserable for no reason to take it away just because you do not like to see it. shame on you it is not about you it is about the child
