I do not drive either -- also terrified! So I know exactly what she is going through. You feel like a bother to have to depend on everyone to get you everywhere you need to go. Its not easy to have to be so dependent on others. Thank god I have the family and friends that I do because there is always someone willing to pick me up. Believe me, don't you think we don't want to be scared and just get in the car and go? It would be so much easier that way but it just isn't how it works. I know I know...mind over matter and all that crap. It isn't that easy. Be happy we stay off the roads... if panic overcomes us, we could get into some serious accidents. I think my not driving bothers everyone else more than it bothers me... I am perfectly happy staying off the roads and I do just fine.

I drive and I stay at home with my girls. I don't know how your friend does it, we get out of the house at least once a day. It is her choice though to drive or not, but it is a good idea to have your license, you never know if you are going to need it for an emergency or what not.

I drive, but I could do without a vehicle if I had to. I live in a small town and luckily for me the grocery store, post office, drug store etc are only about a 10 minute walk. Just be glad to be able to stay home with your daughter instead of putting her in a filthy daycare.

I don't drive, but I just got my learners (well G1 we have a crazy graduated system here) because not driving and living in the suburbs with a small child is insane.

However if I still lived downtown I would probably never learn to drive. I too am afraid. Hopefully after I take lessons this summer I will be less afraid.

Honestly though if she is happy not driving, what the heck is the big deal?

I did not have a car for many years as a SAHM, the first thing thing that changed that was my dd getting into medicine and needing a trip to the ER, -we bought a used car the next week. That car got wrecked and we couldn't repace it right away. The next time we decided on a car was because of a call from the elementary school telling me that my dd was vomiting, and could I come take her home. It would have been cruel to have her walk home as sick as she was. Your friend can live without a licence, many do, but does she have a back up plan?

Well if she is scared to drive then i guess that is how it is, but it might be good to have a license and know how to drive incase of an emergency.. it will get difficult when the child gets older taking them to school, dance class, soccer, friends house etc. etc.. maybe she should go to counseling for this..this is a major problem it seems

I don't have kids yet but of course don't plan on driving at all when I do have kids simply becasue I think I'd be looking at my kid all the time making sure it was ok instead of watching the road. I think it is perfectly fine for moms not to drive.

i have my license but i hate to drive. i don't do it unless i have to. i am a stay at home mom as well. i think it is good to have your license in case something bad does happen, but i don't think it is a vital thing everyone has to have.
