Well Zany,
Since the expression originates in the Bible, may I point you to the Bible's definition?
"This is the antichrist, the one that denies the Father and the Son" 1 John 2:22
Please note the Anti-Christ is NOT just one person:
"YOU have heard that antichrist is coming, even now there have come to be many antichrists" 1 John 2:18
So, anybody who says God does not exist, or is powerless and that Jesus was nobody special are placing themselves against Christ ....thus an Anti-Christ.
Wouldn't you say there's quite a few?

The anti-Christ is not a person but a systematic way of thinking. In other words, Against the teaching of Jesus Christ.

Very good question.

The word 'Christ' is a greek word which means 'Anointed' and is held in comparison with the Hebrew word 'Mashiyach' or 'Messiah' which means the same thing.

Jesus is also the Greek version of the Hebrew name 'Yeshua' which is a shorter version of 'Yehoshua' or 'Yehowah Saves' and is actually in English closer to 'Joshua'. He did NOT have the last name of Christ(Jesus H.[Holy] Christ) according to ignorant belief. His surname to the Jews was 'son of Joseph' or 'ban Yosef'. His name to the Jews was 'Yeshua ban Yosef' and to the Muslims '`Isa ibn Maryam' or 'Joshua son of Mary'.

But getting more to the point...

Anti(against) Christ(Anointed One)-- Anyone against anyone anointed by God.

Jesus(A.S.) was the Mashiyach(Messiah/Christ) sent to the Jews, so anyone against Jesus is an anti-christ. Muhammad (S.A.W.) was the Messiah sent upon the rest of humanity, so anyone against Muhammad is also an anti-christ.

I don't understand where people get the idea that Jesus was the ONLY Messiah. If the people were as devout as they claim, then they would have read the Qumran Papyri(Dead Sea Scrolls) and understood that there were to be TWO Messiahs sent upon mankind. Jesus and Muhammad sent by God to the Jews rest of mankind, respectively.

Too much blind faith is against Jesus's teachings... 'the blind cannot lead the blind'.

Seek knowledge for knowledge is power; power is freedom; freedom is peace...

Peace be upon you...
