I have recently found out after living with it for a few years (and wrecking mylife!) that i have two types of personality disorder. Am i entitled to DLA? I am unable to work at the moment (and havent been able to work for a while) due to this. I know this benefit is not income based and doesnt matter wether u work or not. But basically can i recieve it? Many thanks
also if any one does recieve it and dont mind saying so what level do you get? (only people with personality disorders)

I do currently get it, but only because my conditions prevent me from working (obsessive-compulsive personality disorder with agoraphobia and depression) had to prove i could not work, but after a number of visits from different doctors they all agreed.
It can be a stressful time claiming and they don't make it easy with all the hoops they try and get you to jump though, that are all designed to stop the people that are just making themselves look more ill then they are to get some free money (not the best career choice) so I would suggest get some support. The only way you will find out if you can receive it is to make the claim and not be put off.

Hello Tara sorry about your medical condition it must be difficult to acknolwedge that you have this problem and feel for you.
You asked about DLA and I would advice you to contact the benefits agency or the citizens advice bureau who give really good free advice on these matters.
I think it would be difficult for anyone on here to be able to tell you for sure as many of the benefits entitlements have been changed recently. And realisticly you need one to one advice and not second hand advice which may or mat not be correct.
You could go online tomorrow onto the benfits agency website and you can ask questions. But I think it is best if you contact them direct. You will find a freephone number for the agency in your local directory.

There is no reason why you shouldn't get it if you cannot work because of it. That's what DLA is for. You may have to fight for it, but go ahead and try for it. Most people with BPD have depression as well, and that is enough to stop you working. Give the DSS a ring, or go and see them.

How about a psychiatric social worker? If your diagnosis affects your ability to work and your psychiatrist agrees call SSI-they will send you a packet. You will be denied the first time. That's when you call a disability atty. They do it all for you from there. They will take 25%? of your back pay which is the money that accumulated while you waited for your positive outcome. They do not get any % of your monthly income. You will be eligible for Medicaid for your meds.

i've recently been diagnosed with BPD (borderline personality disorder), and i was awarded DLA middle rate and low rate mobility.
They did ask for reports from the mental health clinic I go to, and a full doctors report so be prepared to wait about 3-4 months if you apply.

If you could get DLA for a personality disorder everyone could get it. None of us have a perfect personality. Some folks just seem to feel more "entitled" than those of us who work for a living and help pay for those "entitlements".
