I saw a recent ABC Nightline news story about some of our troops who were attacked from all sides while escorting a sewage truck. Why were they assigned to escort a sewage truck only to be viciously attacked in Sadr city. Sewage is not that precious. Protecting it is not worth the risk to our soldier's lives.

To the person who informed me that I should read other news sources. I only saw it "1st" on ABC. I read it elsewhere before posing this question. It was clear in the stories that the sewage was not from American bases and that the workers were not American, only the soldiers who were escorting it were American.

I find it amazing that so many people are in favor of rebuilding and the stability of Iraq. Before this war took place, no Americans cared about what was happening in Iraq. Now everyone is a bleeding heart helper monkey.

It is time that all of you wake up and smell the sewage. Defend this administration all you want but the toll on our people is too great and it is high time for this to stop. When we lose massive amounts of our troops and we finally have to bring them home, terrorists will come to our shores and will attack us, but this time it will be because they think we are Imperialists trying to push our democracy agenda. This administration has done more harm to our way of life than any supposition of an Islamic radical.

If they didn't escort the sewage trucks, then they would get blown up, and they'd all be in deep sh**!!!
Seriously though, it's getting harder and harder to figure out what IS worth the risk. Like someone famous once said - 'how do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?'

Likely the sewage truck was working for the US under contract and was likely Haliburton. When the defense dept decided to streamline our milirtary forces by abolishing divisions and al the support like this they had inherent in their capabilites someone conveniently forgot that the civilian assets used to accomplish these mundane tasks still needed protection. So the US Army 'slimmed' down divisions, fighting brigades, are not able to actually put any more men in the field that an old division was able to because numbers of their troops must guard 'crap'. Of course, certain unnamed civilians, member or former members of the current administration, who promulgated this change decades ago and started the company, Haliburton, to 'aid' the Army are in the meantime making huge profits from activities like that.

Those who drive the sewage trucks are government employees, and as we've seen in the past all government employees are targets, so our military was probably defending them. If the terrorists managed to stop the removal of sewage via truck it would shut the country's sewage system down, and then you'd be crying that we aren't helping them take care of their sewage.

Amazing that you totally failed to clue into the fact that it was even necessary to escort the people providing sewage removal service to the Iraq people in the first place.
Think about it. Here is the US providing protection to the people who are working to improve the lot of the Iraq people. And the terrorists are trying to prevent this basic service from occurring.

The Mosque concern has little or no to do with "freedom". the overpowering majority of people brazenly state that the proponents have the liberty and the Constitutional authentic to construct the Mosque. I have not have been given any situation with the Mosque close to floor 0. I do have a situation with the proponents erecting a severely greater development shape on the positioning. whether or no longer they intend to or no longer, apparently to many (alongside with myself) to be a flaunting gesture somewhat than a healing one as they declare. to boot, the call "Cordoba" replaced into poorly chosen (for my area) because of the fact it represents a Moslem "victory" over Christendom in Spain. lower back, it supplies the "visual attraction" of flaunting somewhat than healing. particular, based on the 1st Ammendment, they unquestionably have the the main suitable option to construct the mosque on inner maximum materials. whether, please undergo in concepts that this modification supplies others the the main suitable option and freedom to strongly merchandise. maybe there's a center floor, nevertheless. go away the final development shape in tact. maybe an significant face-elevate is so as yet go away the exterior shape actually as is. advance the interior in any way they pick. in this guy's opinion, this may well be a thank you to have the Mosque open yet in a non-unfavorable, somewhat "healing" way. i think of it is in simple terms a remember of soliciting for some sympathy, sensitivity and documents to many, exceedingly to those undesirable souls who lost kinfolk on 9-11. the main suitable exercising of Freedom often times is restraint.

I didn't hear about that, but if it's true, then they were probably transporting it somewhere to be dumped, they weren't protecting it. It's quite simple, their sewer bins on the base were probably full so they needed to be dumped. Somebody has to do it. This has always been a task that is assigned to soldiers of certain rankings. Nothing new. What, would you rather our soldiers be sleeping and walking around in their own sewage? I think not.

First, I'd like to see how well YOU would live without sewer service.
Second, why aren't you complaining about the TERRORISTS who tried to kill the Americans?
My advice would be to stop watching TV news. It's bad for your brain. Try radio, newspapers, online, blogs. Multiple sources, thats' the key to being well-informed.

Because Haliburton is supposed to do it, but their escorts do not want to leave the airconditioned trailers they live in.
