I grew up in Sterling Heights MI. (We wer known as Sterling Whites). I enlisted and so did a lot of kids I knew in High School. Guess what? Most high school kids do not have $40K cars.
Recruiting command now takes a lot of reservist volunteers. If there is a demographic anomoly I would guess that the minorities you are worried about asked for that assignment. I am pretty sure Detroit has a lot of minorities in it. Maybe they were looking for a station near where they grew up.
I would also like to point out that the Michigan economy is for sh!t right now. Perhaps the people looking to the military need a job?
I joined and got the college money. It was the only way I was going to school. I appreciate what the army has done for me.

Most people who make over 100 grand a year are not 18-20 year old military aged men and are most likely in their 40's which means they cannot serve. At my recruiters office 90% of the recruiters are white and we only have 1 mexcican recruit. Don't judge patriotism by what kind of car they have.

To answer your question why are minorities in recruiting offices? I believe that they want to sign up and serve in the military. as for the rest.
You are only seeing one city. All around this country white people are signing up to serve. From all income levels. MT Clemens Michigan is not the recruiting center for the entire U.S. Military. Its a BIG COUNTRY.

Yes, it's true. The majority of military recruits are lower class and / or minority. My grandpa was in the lower class when he signed up, best move he ever made. The military paid for his college and he became a very wealthy man. If he hadn't joined, he would have been a poor farmer in San Antonio.
People that have a good income have more options in life, so they avoid the military generally, but for some lower income or minorities, the military is a prime option to better themselves.

Try this...by the time you have the education and experience accumulated to earn 6 figures, you are too old to serve.
Your question is illogical. I know plenty of "rich" kids who went into the service after high school, including me.
Mommy and Daddy did not buy us 50K cars...but our parents were upper middle class nonetheless.
I don't know anything about Mr. Clemens...I have never been to Mi. However, I can take a snap shot of anything and make a judgement...and that judgement will most likely be very different that a motion picture...

Maybe they are actually willing to put up, and serve this counrty, rather than like the neo-cons in college that said on MSNBC that it is not important for them to serve, as it is for someone else. But as for the guy that answered before me. Thank you for taking time out of your life, to serve your country. I also have known 'upper class' people that have been in the military, at the same time I have been. It is a mistake to say that the only people that serve, are rich. The problem is, that the most vehement neo-cons are the first ones to find an excuse not to serve. Look on youtube, where MSNBC interviewed a lot of college Republicans, and not one said that they would join th military to fight in Iraq.

Guess what pal? I was born and raised in Novi, and if you know anything about the Metro Detroit area you'll know that's the new Yuppieville, and I enlisted. Heck, I flew down on the plane with guys who graduated from Detroit Country Day, Bloomfield Hills Andover, Detroit Catholic Central; we even had one guy who went to Cranbrook. So stop pedaling your completely wrong, ill-informed, anti-rich propaganda. Those of us who have actually SERVED in the military (unlike armchair quarterbacks like you) know that the vast majority of enlisted folks in the Armed Forces come from upper-middle-class backgrounds.

Rich people do not need a good job with great benefits, education
and retirement at 40 yrs. of age...
There are as proportionally as many men from rich families in
the military as there are men from poor families...
There are simply a lot more poor people than there are rich people.
Have you not noticed this fact ?

What is the demographic of the town? If it is a middle class town, I doubt the "rich" are going to drive those $40K cars there to enlist. They are going to go to stations near them.
