You will have to check your state's cutoff date (the date in which a child has to have reached age five by in order to start kindergarten). In most states, however, the cutoff is September 1st, so your child would just miss it and would have to wait until next year. If this is the case though, you could enroll her in Pre-Kindergarten rather than preschool. Preschool is more like daycare, but Pre-K is more structured and it's specficially for children who are a year away from starting kindergarten. They start teaching them the basic skills they will need.
If your state's cutoff is later, however (some states put it at October, November, or December), you can enroll her in kindergarten this year if you think she's ready. You can also choose to hold her back and still put her in Pre-K instead. Just be aware that even though it's called "kindergarten", it's gotten a lot more demanding and academic in the last couple of decades. Children in kindergarten are now learning what used to be taught in Grade 1. Not trying to encourage or discourage you from putting her in kindergarten if she does make the cutoff, because only you know your child. You should ask the school what your child would be expected to do in kindergarten an see if you think she can handle it.

Since she was born in Sept. she probably won't go to kindergarten until the fall of 2008 as most states require a child be 5 by the May or June before school starts. So she will be 5 almost 6 when she starts school. It sounds crazy I know but when I went to school as long as you were turning 5 soon you could go. I had a Sept. birthday and started when I was 4. That meant I graduated high school and started college before I turned 18. My parents always questioned whether I would have done better in school if they had waited another year. So you should probably find a preschool or preK program in your area to attend.

The age varies by state and every state has it's own date when children need to be five by. My son was born 7/8/2002 and he can start Kindergarten in the Fall if I choose or he can wait another year because his birthday is so late. I believe that in most states the cut off is in August or September. Check with your local district...you can find them by looking in the phone book under the city you live in and city of. Call them and ask them for the cut off date. I think that he will miss it and need to wait until next year though.

you dont say where you live in the usa
but on average your child needs to be 2 yrs 9 months to attend preschool and at this age the child usually goes to "school" only one or two days per wk and only one half day
by 3.9yrs they usually attend 3-4 days per wk for half to whole day(usually only learning program is half day and remaining is nap and group play)
by 4 or 4.9 yrs most either attend preschool 4-5 days per week or even a pre kindergarten program provided by the local elementary school.
to attend kindergarten each state/school district has their own requirements so it is best to check in your phone book and call the local district office...on average you child needs to be 5 yrs old between june 1st and december 1st of the year they start kindergarten your child should be able to attend at least pre kindergarten this year or in california regular kindergarten

The state you live in determines the school cut-off date.
In my state it has always been children who turn 5 before October 15th goes to Kindergarten that year.
So more than likely you state has it's own rules regarding this. Your best solution is to call the local school superintendent's office, or local elementary school for the answer.

I depend on the cut off date is in the town you live in. Call your local elementary school. Normally the cut off is September 1 but some have later ones. Your child would have to be one before September 1.
