Have you tried a product called "Vermont's Bag Balm"? You can use it on Pets and Humans. You can put it on anything you can possibly imagine. It looks similar to Vaseline, but has healing properties. I have five Chihuahua's, and I use it on scratches, rashes, dry skin, etc... Just keep applying it. You might want to consider, putting a little sweater on him, after you apply it, so he can't lick it off. It works for my dog's!

Do you wash him a lot? If so that could be a big part of the problem. You need a PH balanced shampoo and you can use conditioner on your dog. Also, talk to your vet about what kind of oil supplement you can use on your dog and how much you should use. You just add it to the dog food, as often as the vet recommends and it will really help.

I have always used vegitable oil in my dogs food weather they need it or not. They usually like it more than corn or olive oil. but which ever you can get your dog to eat I would use that. a tsp should be enough for a small dog.
You may also try a conditioner when shampooing to hold the moister in. people condtioner is fine to use on dogs. I have been told that it is also ok to use a dandruff shampoo like sulsen and blue. I would go easy on something like that. put a drop in the palm of your hand and rub it in your hands for a bit before putting it on your dog.

My male chihuahua has the same problem - I bathe him in bath oils, and rub vitamin e on his skin part underneath. Also - put a sweater on him to keep him from licking the vitamin e off.

You can add half a capful of some type of natural oil, such as corn oil (if not allergic) or flaxseed oil to his food to help keep his skin hydrated. Talk to your vet about the best additive for your particular dog and situation.

I had an older poodle that scratched all the time, the vet finally started giving her allergy shots about once a month and it cleared it up. Good Luck

Try Salmon oil in his food. Also try a Tea Tree and Aloe shampoo. Try Earthbath shampoo. Its the best!

I used to give my dog vitamin E tablets. It is perfectly safe and it helps with dry skin in humans and animals.

You can actually put some baby oil on him, you would just have to be careful what he touches for a while. I have used lotion and it worked really well. try and use a human shampoo for dandruff or dry scalp, that helps too.

a friend of mine gives her chihuahua a teaspoon of benadryl daily, and puts vasaline on its dry patches. it sounds weird but it does help the dog.
