i have a 96 dodge neon, n since i bought it.. (which i got it for only $600) it has been making a noise that sounds like the jetsons, but seems to be working well since 2 yrs now, despite the fact that the milage and speedometer, ect always dont work, then works when it wants too???
but what do you think can be wrong with this car, and also sometimes it takes a bit of a while for it to start up,
is this normal for a neon, cause i heard neons are crappy cars??

I own a shop, and my son had a Neon in which I kept operational for him. I have never heard one that sounded like the Jetsons. Thats a new one on me lol. Hard starting can be, a plugged up fuel filter, or even an air filter could make it run crappy. If you hear a blowing noise it may have a vacuum leak from a broken hose, or one that has came off, split where it plugs on, or just rotten and falling apart. It may need a timing belt, as that too can make it hard to start sometimes, and start good at other times. You cannot let the timing belt break, because it will do much damage, and cost mega-dollars to fix if it does, so I would have that checked out right away. Your speedometer, I know what does that. The next time the speedometer stops working, grab the top of the dash with both hands just above the steering wheel on both sides of the wheel, and push the dash towards the front of the car. I think you will see it go back to working. My son's did the same thing, and it was caused by him removing the dash to install speakers in the front, and didn't get it back in right or left some screws out, but that is what he had to do to get it working again. A Neon is not a crappy car, a cheap car yes, but for what they cost, a pretty good little car. They will go forever if you keep it maintained, and watch the hoses right under the front of the car under the radiator. There are some cooler lines for the transmission, and DO NOT let them leak as this will get the transmission. They are bad to leak, and if yours are leaking any, have them replaced or repaired. Outside of this, they are good little Jetson cars.
Glad to help out, Good luck!!!

I had a 1997 Dodge Neon that made that noise. It is a leak in either the manifold or the exhaust.
