Well, since one definition of insanity is "doing the same thing the same way over and over and expecting different results", then gambling would be a type of insanity, due to the HUGE odds against winning and the rule that "the house always wins". Even if you DO win, it doesn't diminish the insanity. You couldn't be locked up for it, but you're still nuts if you keep doing it!

It's a one-dollar-a-week dream. I feel sorry for people who have to so strongly look down on everyone who buys lottery tickets.

Yes, there are people who spend more than they can afford on lottery tickets. However, if the lottery weren't there, they'd be gambling elsewhere or find some other distraction to eat up all of their money.

To those who say that all lottery winners end up miserable and broke, I say give me a lousy two million dollars, and I'll prove you wrong. If it takes more to prove the point, give me more. I guarantee you that, barring any major health problems, I will be extremely happy for the rest of my life.
