I am supposed to be leaving for a trip to Italy in ten days and I still don't have my passport. From the time that I applied it was exactly 8 weeks. I did expedite my passport on March 1st and I am leaving in March 17th. I called them today (March 7th) and still they haven't "picked" it up for the expidite request. I am getting worried that I won't be able to go on my honeymoon trip with my fiance. Anyone have any ideas that would allow us to get the process sped up? Or anyone have any ideas at all?

To make matters worse they are saying that I can do nothing about this and to just keep on calling them back. If you have ever tried to call them then you know that you have to try to call tons of times.

Last time I called, I did ask to speak with someone higher up, and she said that noone is there that is higher up and that they would tell me the same thing. Which would indicate to me that someone is there that is higher up. Oh well, I will continue to cross my fingers in hopes that I get it before my honeymoon.

One of the many times that I have called I did ask if I could just go to one of the processing offices and they told me that I can't because my passport was already being processed. Plus, they already have my birth certificate.

So far I did take the advise and contacted my Senator's office. They did say that they have people working there that are directly involved in passport issues. I had to fax them a release, but they said that they will work on it. I will keep you all informed. Thanks for the speedy answers!!

I had the same problem. I contacted my senator's office. I told them my problem and they had a person that handled the whole thing. I called at 8am on 3-5-07 and I had my passport in my hand on the evening of 3-6-07. Call your Senator NOW!

I had this problem with one of my passports, so I just kept calling the office who who was dealing with it, every day. I ended up by saying I had to travel earlier than the given date because of "personal family problems abroad". My passport arrived 2 days later. Last time I applied, I used the post-office checking service. Cost me a bit extra, but it only took 3 days by courier. Keep on at the office, try calling at different times during the day, hopefully you'll find someone sympathetic. Though 8 weeks is a ridiculous length of time to wait. Be firm, and if they try to put you off again, demand to speak to someone higher. You've paid for a service, and they're not giving you that service. Let them know it's costing you time, money and stress to keep calling them. Hope it gets there in time. Have a great wedding and honeymoon. Congratulations to you both

Next time you call ask them if you can just go into a passport agency yourself and pay for the passport. If you live near any of the agencies, and you are flying within 14 days, you can go in and get it taken care of in person (you must call the 800 number to make an appointment).
I've had to get my passport issued the same day, and they were able to do it in a few hours...IT CAN BE DONE IF YOU NEED IT. Be forewarned that it will cost you an extra fee, as in you will have to pay about $150, but you will be able to get it in time.
Read the link completely and take in all of the appropriate information. http://travel.state.gov/passport/about/agencies/agencies_913.html

Find the phone number for the Passport Office. They can tell you how to get an emergency passport. Ask them where you can get one in one day. It will cost more but you won't have to sweat. If you don't get help there contact the State Department.
You'll probably get it soon. Doesn't it only take 6 weeks?

It depends on where you applied, where you are, and where they had to send it. It could take from 90 days to 6 or 8 months. Also depending on where you are going it could take longer or they may deny it. Check with the consolate for more information. Passports are not usually expedited unless it is an emergency.

there really is nothing that you can do. passports always take longer around this time a year because of spring breaks and its around vacation time so even expediting it won't be as quick as you thought. You really just have to cross your fingers and pray because there is literally nothing you can do. They will not let you out internationally without a passport. Sorry. I hope you get it!

not much if they will not cooperate. ask them what the status is. The key is asking them the right questions and being nice about it even if you want to yell will go a long way. keep trying you will eventually get someone that is willing to help.
