My eldest son did this terribly when he was 18 months. I got so upset about it that i cried when he did it...after a few months of desperation i talked to my health visitor, and she suggested that everytime he did it, i was to walk away from him, not talk to him or look at him and let him just get it over with. He was doing it because he didnt like to be told he wasnt allowed to have something, and he wanted attention also.
It was really hard to take her advice, but i did, which meant that up to 20 times a day i would go upstairs to the bedroom and sit on the end of the bed crying while he was downstairs having his temper tantrum headbanging....and after the 1st time i did this, it took him less than 2 weeks, and he never did it again!!

Hope this helps, good luck.

My little brother did the exact same thing. We did everything we could do get him to stop and he wouldn't. His dr told my mom that when he starts to do it try to put a pillow or something soft under his head to lessen the blow. My brother usually banged his head off the floor. He did eventually grow out of this around 2 or 3 dont remember which.

M son is also 14 months and does the exact same, whenever i take something away or say NO he will do it, he also headbutts me. I think he is doing it for attention I just look away from him, he will stop when he knows he is goin to get no attention from doing it. Try distracting him with a fav toy or something if he wont stop, but dont speak to him until he stops. Lisa x

My son did that. It was very upsetting. He is three and no longer does it. I think it is an attention thing. Ignore it or try to distract him. When he is not getting the attention, he will stop. It is frustrating for them as well and they have to learn to control the frustration. My uncle did it as well. Dont let people tell you he is autistic unless you are seeing other signs. People are so quick to jump to a diagnosis. I think your son is perfectly normal. My sons speech was not too good until recently and he is 3. People kept telling me something was wrong. So I took him to an audiologist. His hearing is fine. That at least relieved my mind. Boys are lazy and are much different than raising girls. They mature so much slower. Although there are boys that are above average as well. I wish you luck but this too will pass.

That is definatly a problem that should be addressed to his doctor, i knew someone that did that as well, he was doing it all the time, and it can cause brain damage, there is more going on than that, you should look closely to what he does otherwise, cause my friends mother didnt notice it until he started doin it, and then relized he was having episodes, and he was a very anxious child, that was his way of expressing himself

MY SON DID THIS-HE WOULD BANG HIS HEAD ON THE FLOOR/WALL IF HE WAS CROSS OR COULDNT GET HIS OWN WAY.AFTER ADVICE FROM THE HEALTH VISITOR I IGNORED IT-THEY RARELY HURT THEMSELVES-AND WALKED AWAY. THEY DO IT FOR ATTENTION AND TO GET A REACTION.HE'LL GROW OUT OF IT-HONEST.IT LOOKS WORSE THAN IT IS-MY SON HAD A PERMANENT GRAZE ON HIS HEAD FOR MONTHS.!!

He might will grow out of it but don't let him have his way a lot of times just like reward him if he do something good but if you let him get anything he wants.

You MUST take this matter to your Doctor. I forget the name of the condition but if not treated early, I cannot guarantee the child's future.
