He just keeps saying he has had basketball practice afterschool, and gets hoem late..and I( don't want to be all pushy..can I just say..oh, call me after school? or ask if he has practice first?

I'm assuming this is face to face, during conversation?
You could just say "well call me after practice"
and, if he doesnt, then he's a creep loser jerk and dump him.

well if i were you i'd stop worrying, if his basketball is more important then you, then I think you've found the wrong guy, but if you want him to call you ask for his number and if you call him, then he will be more comfortable calling you.
believe me , me and this guy talk on the phone all the time and I called him first and now on friday we're going out , so just do what your gut says and ask him for his digits.

If he is on the basketball team, then he has either a game or practice after school everyday. Try calling him after practice or on a weekend...most highschools dont practice on weekends, and if they do its usually early.

If he doesn't call you, he's just not into you.
It doesn't matter how shy or busy a guy is... if he's into you, he'll call. He'll make time, even if it is just for 5 minutes.
Get busy with your friends. Go out with other guys. Enjoy your life and stop wasting time on this guy!! :)

U should tell him that u are lonely at night. Everybody is busy in my family. U need someone 2 talk to? and live up the conversation which will be similiar to a sad story.
then i am sure he will call u himself. guys like girls who are alonely.

why don't you call him and ask him out, it is actually a normal thing for women to do now a days
men liked to feel wanted as well, chased after, for lack of a better meaning
