my friends mother has found stray kittens under her deck, we live in canada and it is very vry cold. the mother cat is present. i can only take one kitten to my house ( were not even aloud to have pets) how can i tell how old the kittens are ust by looking at them? if they are less then 6 weeks would it be better to leave the kitten with it's mother and posably die of exposere ( or not i dont know how harty kittens are) of would it be better to take it home away from it's mother and i could supplement it (would infant formul work?) and finally would a stray kitten be a good pet? or would it avoid humans? finally what should i do with the rest of the kittens?

Do you have shelters there that you could take them too?
The same thing happened to my cousin, there was a kitten under her deck. She got a humane trap and caught her. She brought her to the shelter and then decided she wanted her back. She's been a wonderful pet ever since. But try calling a shelter or a vet b/c you have no idea what they would need as far as food etc. I know pet stores in the US sell kitten formula and bottles.

Well depends on how tramatic it is on them. I recived two 4 week old kittens that the mother abandon. I took them to a vet ad thats how i found there age and that they were very sick also. I made a cardboard box kitty hotel(where they couldnt get out) gave them warmed kitten wet food and kitten milk. The male came around but hte female never did
For the rest Get a rubber maid box, cut a hole int he side, place it on something off the ground and place in hay or bedding like that to keeep the warmth. If the mother cat wont put them in there, just have her se you place the kittens in there, PLace Kitten food out for mommy since she needs the nutrition. If no luck on that and she rejects the kittens, find someone to help foster them. Catch the mother cat and have her fixed ASAP because she can get pregnant soon after the kittens get big enough. GHet a humane trap to get her and use some jucey tasting and food that can leave a good smell for a long time. KFC chicken works well

I have a feral kitten (I just adopted around 3 weeks ago) she is 6 months old! I also have a 5 year old male cat... Both were feral barn kitties! Both are wonderful cats... Granted my kitten is a little crazy but it is all in good fun! I think adopting or rescuing a feral cat and giving it a loving home is a wonderful thing! Its not so much the breed or background of a cat that will determine its personality... they way you react towards him/or her can make the difference! Mine are both well behaved! Im sorry i cant answer your other question because I don't want to misinform you! I would call a certified vet and ask them what would be the best situation for the kittens and their mother! Best of Luck! If you decided to give one a wonderful home make sure to spay/neuter (to avoid the over-population problem that already exists), do not declaw, and make sure to take the kitten to the vet asap for a check up... Make sure to keep up with vaccinations and check-ups! Try contacting a No-Kill Shelter! http://www.thecatsite.com/Care/27/Handling-Feral-Cats.html An article about handeling feral cats! http://www.thecatsite.com/Care/22/Hand-Rearing-Kittens.html this is an awesome article on how to provide proper attention to hand rearing kittens!

If it is very cold in the winter or at night where you are, the kittens and the mother should not be exposed to the weather. Is the mother wild or tame?
If she is tame, I strongly suggest coaxing her out with her babies and taking them to a local shelter. If you call the pound in your area they will have lists of local shelters who accept animals and dont put them to sleep.
I she is wild, call the pound. They can come out with a trap (safe trap) and catch her and her babies and take them to where they are warm and get adequate food.
If you can see the kittens fairly well this is how to tell their age - at day 11, kittens eyes open. So if they are wide eyed, they are over 2 weeks. If they are closed, they are under two weeks.
Also, as kittens get older, their ears start to move up on their head. If they are very yuong, the ears are kind of stubby and on the sides of their head (and they are closed too!) but if they look more like your usual kitten with the ears on top of the head and open eyes, they are most likely about 4 weeks or more.
Kittens should stay with mom until about 8 weeks.
My final suggestion - call animal cnotrol, they know what to do. They can put mama and her babies somewhere safe and out of harsh weather. Give mama water, good food, a warm bed.
Youre a kind person for caring, Thank you.

If you want a kitten as long as the kitten is not too old it will be fine as a pet. It would warm up to you. You should be able to buy a little bottle and a moms milk type supplement at your local pet store to feed the little kitten. You could take it to a vet and get it checked out. They should be able to tell you how old it is and things like that. As for the rest of the kittens I would take them to a local animal shelter. They will wait until they're old enough and healthy and adopt them out to people.
Hope this helped :)

I do not know if in Canada there is a type of humane society. Where the cat, and kittens can be taken in; until some takes them in as adopted, or foster cares for them. Check around. But ASAP. For now; leave food blankets outside. If you can to try to help them.

I would leave the kittens with their mother and put an old blanket down there. Try to play with them so they get used to people and don't grow up wild. Try to find a no kill shelter that will take them when they are weaned.

If they are young kittens, they can still be socialized and make great pets. Typically, once they go past 4 months old, it's hard to socialize them. I suggest calling a cat rescue to collect them. They will also get them all spayed and neutered and find homes.

I take it their mum has deserted them? First determine they are healthful in case you prefer to develop them and ensure they don't seem to be sneezing, have not any eye discharge/nasal discharge - in case you prefer take them to the vet for a examine up. raising 3 week previous kittens comprises a large form of artwork can they lavatory by using themselves yet? in the event that they are able to't you would be able to desire to stimulate this simply by fact the mummy might. Take the nook of a paper towel and run it under heat water then wipe over the kittens genitals to stimulate urine and faeces production in the event that they are able to try this on their own it somewhat is greater effective. attempt them with a dry animal milk alternative which you will could desire to make up as according to training you would be waiting to purchase it from a puppy shop/vet and feed the mandatory quantity to them the two in a small saucer/lid or in the event that they gained't drink on their own you will could desire to feed them your self by using potential of a syringe which you would be waiting to get from a vet/safeguard in many situations 4, 3ml syringes finished 5-7x on a regular basis is okay. The kittens may even consume small quantities of kitten food so attempt this customary simply by fact the greater they are able to do themselves the fewer there is for you. you would be able to desire to maintain them heat too. in case you such as you may take them to the safeguard yet bear in mind the safeguard could think of they are too youthful so they could not shop them or could have too many to foster out. yet once you ask in case you may foster them and whilst they are sufficiently massive (around 1kg) might they be waiting to discover them properties. until you prefer to maintain them.
