She is very obedient, but i had trouble with her pulling on the lead. I was avised on here to get her a haltie, i did, it works wonders with regard to walking, she is so much better. The problem i need help with now, since putting her on the lead with haltie, now and again, she goes nuts!! when another dog passes us. She did it this morning, another Border Collie was over the other side of road, she went mad!! jumping, barking, growling, she got the haltie off her face. I was so angry, i was very firm with her, made her sit!!! eventually, got the haltie back on her, but how do i stop her doing this? She is so good otherwise, apart from the fact, my hubby spoils her, when i am training her, he interrupts, and pets her, so she then ignores me. I have to tell him to butt out, as i am trying to get her totally disciplined, and she is my dog, he did not even want a dog. I am getting so frustrated, i feel like the big bad wolf, for wanting to train her, i do not want an unruly pet.

Slipping off the haltie really isn't good. There is a simple solution to this which involves getting a halti training lead - this site shows a picture of how to use it - http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?pf_id=4458&dept_id=17&co=tiscali .
I would recommend always using it so that if she does slip it again then she at least can't get too far away from you.

As for the going mad about the other dog try the technique I suggested in your last question:
“If you teach your dog a sit command at home, when she is paying attention, making sure she does it every time you ask by rewarding her lots. next you need to find a sound, maybe a duck caller or a whistle, that gets her attention (even when she is hyper excited), you will then be able to use this to get her attention when she jumps at things on walks, and then as soon as she looks at you give the sit command, then she should be able to sit patiently until the 'FUN' thing has gone. Make sure to reward good behaviour with lots of treats and fuss, never shout or hold your dog directly when she is naughty or excited as this to her is attention and may encourage the bad behaviours.”

The same principle should work here too. It does sound like your dog maybe very fearfull of somethings, you may need to find a local behaviour specialist to get some one on one lessons to completely combat the problem.

Take the haltie away your dog probably doesnt like having something wrapped around her nose. every time she pulls just turn around and carry on walking in the other direction your dog sees walkies as a race and will get borred of loosing the lead and will learn that if she wants to go where you are going then she needs to walk with you.
Tell your hubby to either engage with the training or leave the dog alone. Men can be soo anoying some times

It sounds as though you are doing a very good job. Make sure it is always YOU who feeds her...then she will see you as the provider.

When she starts to create at other dogs...have a plastic bottle half filled with stones and shake is hard and fast .... just a quick short burst so her attention is diverted...she'll quickly realise that a horrible noise follows that behaviour.

Like you say, Collies are quick to learn.

I have a collie right now and have owned one before.

Keep going as you are. Do training exercises when your husband is not there! Followed by some ball games as a reward.

Good luck! P.S.( Choke chains really hurt..I would never advise that)

I have a rescue dog myself and we had the same issues. You have to be very consitant when you walk use the same words and punishments over and over. You also need to stop her BEFORE she changes her behavior, that means if you see another dog coming correct her before she changes and redirect her energy. Bring treats of course those work wonders when training. If she has never been to dog classes go, I know she might not need the training but she will get used to other dogs being around. If you have a friend that has a dog you can work with her there. Slow introduce them and make them socialize, take them on walks it will be good practice. Don't get frustrated when you take on a rescue dog you never know what their past was like and what they went through. Just remember she was very grateful that you saved her, and by training her and making her a well behaved dog you are making her a happy dog! Dogs need pack leaders be hers! Good Luck

Ask her to sit and settle whenever anything that excites her comes along. If she concentrates on that and on you and you give her a treat and keep her attention till the other dog has passed she will change her idea of what you do when you meet another dog. You must stay calm and try to settle her before she becomes excited.

Do you live near a petsmart? If so enroll in classes. They can help you. They also offer a device that attaches to the lead and when she pulls it will admit a sound she can only hear.

With your problem with other dogs around its best for a class in training on the issue

Sounds like her first owners didn't fully train her and socialise her with other dogs.

Take her to training and socialisation classes. It will be harder now she is older but collies are famous for being clever so she should still be trained easily enough.

When you take her out have a water spray with you. When she acts up Shout no and spray her in the face at the same time. Make sure that you get the tone of your voice right. It's the tone that will get the dog to respond not the volume of your voice. Don't forget to praise your dog when she gets it right. Lot's of praise makes the dog enthusiastic to get it right because she will want to please you.
