Well there are a couple of methods.
Usually you can use a image of the operating system after a fresh installation. Why? because you might need to revert to the saved state the applications will be obsolete.
What application can be used. Norton Ghost is a very good one that comes with a interface that can make backups without additional disks and CD. In case of software problems you can use a floppy that you made, or a boot-able CD to restore your computer.
Well another way is with Nero. Maybe you have a DVD-ROM and have the software. The application has a tool that makes backup of your system.
But from my experience I can tell you that a fresh reinstall is irreplaceable , even if it takes 30 minutes instead of 5.

You don't really.
The only thing you should need to back up is the data that you want to save. Such as Pictures, Music, word documents, videos etc.
There is a way to create an image of your operating system to use if it crashes. But it is more cost effective to just reinstall your OS.

Give good hand-signals; shout loudly, and keep the Operations Manager out of the way.
