Just think about the last teenage girl you saw behind the wheel: she was probably talking on her cell phone, sipping a drink from a straw, and touching up her make-up (with her face about 3 inches from the rear-view mirror) all at the same time. Does that sound like a good driver to you?

Teenage boys have traditionally been the ones to take more risks compared to girls, which is how they ended up with higher insurance rates. But in this day and age of cell-phone gabbing and putting on makeup while driving, I would use those as some of your points. Not that boys don't talk on the phone, but they tend to not like to be on the phone for hours on end in the way that a lot of girls do. It falls in line with females being more into communication than males, lol!

I am not sure how up to date the insurance companies information is, but I know in the past teen male drivers paid more because it was felt they were more inclined to speed. Now days, girls have many distractions as well, many of them mentioned in other answers here. All teens pay higher insurance in part due to inexperience. It may be time to do more research to determine why young men pay more, are considered a higher risk, or if they still are. Good luck on your paper

in my opinion don't think there any better or any worse, the thing that a lot of us have going against us these days is cell phones and better stereo systems, and we often look off the road to change something on them, and this causes lot of minor accidents, but guys do it as bad a girls do,so really insurance shouldn't be based the way it is,but they figure a young man is going to drive faster and be less cautious ,but i don't think its unfair to any of the younger drivers who are good drivers to punish them with high insurance cost, because we think they might get in an accident, but that's the way the insurance company's look at it now days, any way good luck with it,i hope this help,s.

One average (and that's what we are talking about is the average with regards to insurance):
Girls, while less likely to be involved in SERIOUS accidents (the reason insurance is higher for boys), are more likely to be involved in MORE accidents. This is related to the fact that women experience more stress in driving than men, and though they don't drive recklessly as much, because they experience more stress trying to follow the rules, they get in a lot of MINOR accidents.
They are just less likely to go crazy in the car and do stupid stunts like boys.
So in summary: Boys, bigger accidents, girls, more accidents.
Here are some web links that have reference materials about gender differences and driving:

It all depends on the girl. If she is raised right, she will be responsible when she drives and she'll follow traffic rules. Same goes for boys. It all depends on the person. When you buy your 16 year old a brand new Mustang or another sports car, expect major problems. If you buy your 16 year old a clunker for a first car, it will help them understand how a car functions and give them experience for a future new car. But guys do act a fool more than girls and that's why their insurance is higher.

I think they claim that teenage boy drivers do more stupid things trying to show off.
In my oppinion, teenage girls are horrible drivers! I know at least half a dozen girls that wrecked before they turned 20
One of which totaled 3 cars in 3 years

Yes I would have to say they are in a way because young boys like to show off and do stupid stuff behind the wheel and you know what I'm talking about. Boys like to spin the wheels and leave black marks on the road then you have look behind your car while it is moving to see if you left black marks and then BAM you hit something. So why did you ask a question that you already knew the answer to.
YES GIRLS ARE BETTER DRIVERS.

have you ever heard the phrase...women mature faster than men do? well, this same idea is applied by insurance companies, I believe. Women mature earlier than men so by the time females are 22, their actual age in a male body is around 25.
Can you see the relationship now...? sucks does it not...?
