I am thinking about making a permanent move to England, because my boyfriend lives there. I am in the states, and have never visited. I was wondering if any natives (American or not) can tell me your experiences of living in England? What are the good and bad things? What is the culture/mindsets/attitudes of the British people? I am also fairly young and recently graduated uni with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work. I have also heard there are a lot of jobs in demand, and better paying, for Social Work over there too. This was also something positive for me to hear. I know a lot of people tell me it's rainy and to stay closer to London because it's more interesting. Also, what are some suggestions for a foreigner coming to live in England, in regards to how much I should save up, what resources to find on good housing, having a job secured, etc? I know this isn't going to be an easy process, and one I will definitely have to think about for a while. Thank you.

I am planning to visit my boyfriend for a week this summer, but I know a week spent there isn't enough to make a permanent decision either.

Well, my advice for you: visit your boyfriend in the UK first and look and see around if you really like it over there and if you might find work in the UK as well. Also get information about moving to the UK from several websites, i.e. the website of the British Embassy in DC, etc...
But, you really should visit England first and see for yourself...don't make the third step before the first one!

I had been to England several times - and I really like that country very much, but England also is an VERY expensive country and many things are different over there as in the U.S., but that was my impression. Again, I really liked England - a very nice & beautiful country, but extremely expensive!!!!

Greetings from Germany

right, first of all, u wil be more likely to find it expensive as ur currency changes from dollars 2 pounds.... dollars is less than pounds soo yeah its cheaper in amercia bt cause we live here all are lives we dont find much expensive. yes their r lots of jerks around bt jerks are everywhere in the world and u cant hide from them all ur life im afraid..... yes it does rain here alot bt for the past 2 days its been sunny.... most people are nice just dotn get involved with the gangsta/ chavy type unless u know them or can handle them....the bets places in the Uk are.... manchester, london, if u like busy places but if you jst want peace u would be better off in like wales or scotland or a quiet side of england liek dartmoor, plymoth which is near the beaches.......
i think if i were u i would coem here for a couple of weeks then decide if u wnt 2 stay here or not.. ask people about work.. ask them if they know how much ull be gettin paid.. etc.. and people may be snobby or stuck up but people like that are everywhere. i know ive been to amercia as well & seen it for myself... bt most people are nice.. my dad has m8 how is a multi millionaire & he is 1 of the nicest people ever & hes young .. so dont belive people whe they say british r stuck up cause not evry1 is..
anyways good luck with everything

form final 2 or 3 sentences i think of you may stay in Berlin and your Hochdeutsch will go through besides simply by fact no person speaks like that on the streets, a minimum of not the place I stay! Berlin has the terrific song faculties, song concert activities on a daily basis of the week, nicer human beings, purifier atmosphere, trees everywhere.

A week is better than nothing. You need to socialise a lot so that you can ask questions.
