isn't it better to believe, just in case?
If you are right, then you get to spend eternity with Odin. But if you are wrong then you haven't lost anything.

Should that be styled "Ragnar's Wager" ... ?

*laughs* You forget there are some of us here who do believe in and worship the All-Father. I plan on going to Asgard when I die. ;-)

Just believing in Odin won't get you into Valhalla though, that's reserved for his chosen warriors and those who have completely dedicated themselves to him. And if you do that, you tend to die violently. Besides the chosen don't stay in Valhalla for all eternity either, only until Ragnarök. That's why they battle everyday and feast every night in preparation for the twilight of the Gods.

There are many halls in Asgard besides Valhalla, though. The Norse afterlife IS much cooler than anything Christianity has to offer.

Everybody is a non-believer from the point of view of some human religion, since there are SO many religions, and any believer usually only believes in one of them. So, statistically speaking, EVERYBODY has a lot of chances to spend a whole eternity in some bizarre place, therefore any such bet is theoretically a bad move (no matter how you take it, you have HUGE chances to lose the bet, and in case you lose, you have HUGE chances to actually have something to lose). But hey, if you pay for the drinks any problem is already half solved!

Hmm. Does Odin specifically require anything besides dying in battle, though?

Some of us are more concerned with the pursuit of truth than with a "Fire Insurance policy" if you will.

I'm a Christian and I utterly HATE the idea that people should believe "just in case." I believe because it is what I have come to as Truth through my own experience and the researching of many options (Wicca, Agnosticism, and others).

Personally, I'm spending my eternity with Zeus! But I think Hera needs to kick his as* for cheating on her so much!

Depends on the way you born. I asked around my office, and no one has even heard of Odin. I guess in American culture we're mostly Christian or Jewish.

So they'd be asking you the same thing. Wouldn't it be safe to believe in Jesus and God just in case?

Uh... Never heard of them. Sounds like a good plan, though, eternal inebriation.

Maybe because you don't get eternity, just until Ragnarok when you all get incinerated by the fire giants.
