school teaches you a whole bunch of crap that you won't use again. It does give you some basics that of course you will use forever, but most of the other stuff you need just for state board. I'm not quite sure y your teacher is making you hold 800 things at one time. if your done with your cut and your drying then there is no need to be holding your scissors. but I guess you gotta do what they say for now. Some of the key things you really need to pay attention to are the basic guidelines and sectioning for haircuts and-know the color wheel! I still use the color wheel on a daily basis when formulating someones haircolor, you have to know what tones cancel one another and what not. Once you get our of school the best thing to do is assist at a really good salon for a little bit, it will give you a different perspective and def. build upon those basics. good luck, and never think you learned it all cuz then you'll never be successful. there is always something to learn

The most important thing you can learn in school is the basic knowledge you will need to take you further when you finish. The reason your instructor is making you hold all those things at the same time is to teach you control. There is nothing worse than a stylist who fumbles about. After a while you will want to hold them all as you get into your work you appreciate having your tools at hand. It takes a long time to get used to it so don't fret. No one will force you to hold it all when you leave it is just an exercise.
Good luck.

when you set things down, like your comb when you're cutting, the cut is going to take a lot longer to finish because you're constantly setting and picking up the comb. you'll get to the point to where you feel naked without your comb. your hands and fingers will get super strong, and then holding more than one thing at once will be a piece of cake. the most important thing to learn from school? everything!!! one thing i will mention is to keep up on your sanitation procedures. so many stylists get out of school, and lose some of their good sanitation habits (such as using neckstrips, washing implements with soap and water before soaking in disinfectan) keep learning. go to local classes and trade shows. ask questions.

Hi :) Dont panic everything will fall into place. You just take everything in your stride and the way you want to do it and feel most comfartable doing it! the important things will probably be better learned at college if you want to learn the real stuff its usually just the basics at school though.Think to yourself are you thinking of pursueing a serious career in Cosmotology and if you are then you will need to learn from mistakes with hair and ofcourse practice makes perfect ;)!!

While it is not necessary, the teacher is trying to teach you to become dexterous, so you can be the very best.

Trust your teacher. Later, you can do whatever, but for now, you need to learn from her or him.

Nope, not a cosmetologist. But I think your instructor is messing with you. You don't have six hands.
Or do you....? I'm not judging you if you do.
