Many people confuse scabbing with the damaged outer layer of skin that is full of pigment and needs to peel off. THAT is what is normal. Liken it to damage caused from a sunburn that must peel.

Scabbing, while it occurs with many tattoos and is not the worst thing that could happen, is from an accumulation of fluids that stick together like glue that forms somewhat of a clot to act as a protective barrier to the wound. When that clot dries out, it becomes a scab.

We try very hard to prevent scabbing by putting an ample amount of ointment onto the tattoo and then covering it with a dressing for at least two hours. On occasion, people still have fluids that build up after that time, but for the most part, once fluids are washed away and new after care preparation is applied, the skin is generally left "scab free."

Your tattoo will naturally scab over, just like it probably bled when you were getting it done. It is still skin and the scab is a way of protecting itself. You should use moistuizer on it, try Eucerin Lotion. Do not pick the scab!!! It can peel off some of the ink. And if you are really worried, go back to the artist and get his opinion.

you shouldn't let it dry out but most tattoos do form scabs. but not a scab like that which would form on a cut. it won't be hard and crusty if you keep it properly moisturized. it should just be a thick covering that is the same color as your tattoo. after 4-6 days it will begin to peel. just let it do it's thing. don't scratch or peel it.

The last line of my care instructions card from my artist literally says, "do not listen to tattoo experts in bars, pool halls, or your buddies house for 6 months."

Most tattoos have a level of scabbing, depending on how heavy handed your artist was. I use a VERY light film of ointment for the first two nights, ONLY. Then it is all lotion after that. Also in my care instructions.

it is completely normal for your tat to scab. Keep it clean (wash with soap & water) and use a moisturizer on it, and NEVER ever pick at it!!!
If you have any questions you should call your tattoo artist, they're not only there to ink you but to help you heal properly, after all, it is their art too and they want it to look just as good as you do!
BTW I have 6 so I know a little about it...

Yes your friend is right. The new tattoo is going to scab some but do not let it dry out use a moisturizer as needed and do not let the sun sit on it. you can use a sun blocking cream when it heals to prevent fading

no scabbing is not normal.
scabbing happens when the person who did the tattoo on you went too deep in the skin.
if not taken care of properly(moisturize with a&d ointment), it will scab up and leave a scar under the pigment. you can't really tell, but you can feel it.. and overall, it does affect the look of the tattoo.
tattoos are supposed to peel, like a sunburn, but not scab up.
get another tattoo artist with a lighter hand, this person who did this has a very heavy hand and could make you scab and scar again.
but it sounds like it hasn't scabbed yet, its not supposed to.

yes and no...it should be kept fairly moist for the first few days at least...if it does scab DO NOT i repeat DO NOT pik at it as this will more than likely affect the outcome. if you really start top worry go back to where you got it done, most good places will do free check ups for about a month... good luck, hope your body art is as good as mine!!!

Its going to scab either way its part of the healing process. Be carefull what kind of moisturizers you use, using ky jelly or some regular lotions will actually cause fading in of the colors. The tatoo shop should sell some ointment that will be safe, some people use A&D ointment although i ahve heard that can be bad too. Whatever you do no vasaline, it will fade and it happened to me.
