If they're paying your utility bills just hold off. I waited...and waited.. and my design ideas actaully changed and I wound up with ones that are totally unique and have a ton of meaning to me... just keep saving...in the meantime get something pierced! Also, beware..they're wicked addictive. If you're a chicka (or even if you're a dude) try henna and make sure it's the real design you want

I would recommend waiting. You do have only a couple of months to wait and once you have them you will have them forever, so what is the rush. Take your time and find a very good local shop. I got my first at 23 and I don't regret waiting, but I did eventually cover it up. I would honestly recommend finding a tat you want and waiting almost a year to be sure that is what you want. People change a lot after 18. Getting them in discreet places is good too as you don't want one that would interfere with possible hiring. Give your parents a listen. They have no one else in mind but you with almost everything they ask of you.

As sooooooooooon as my daughter turned 18, she ran straight to an inker (couldn't really call this person a tattoo artist!) and had her body marked for life! One was her former boyfriends nickname, later she added a heart, then later a cross, and then later,,,,Point is that she is now 19! and wants them removed! She realizes that putting something permanent on your body should be reserved for only something that is either truly a work of art, or something profoundly meaningful. Kids 18 years old just want to "monkey see, monkey do" and some of you are marking yourselves up like graffiti on a wall! What's the darn rush?

1. since they last a life time....a time that is 4 times longer than you have lived so far....waiting a bit only offers wisdom.
2. a tat is for life, should have serious meaning to you. should not be something "cool", "hip", "rad", "something of today". cause remember....its for LIFE.
3. wait. cause what you think you want today, will change tomorrow and it will change again after that. what you think you know now and what you want now, will change, I promise you this.
4. from the reasons you give, money, a ride....fact you are still in HS, etc....even thoughh 18......from one dude to another....wait, wait till least 22, then choose. Cause you will so regret it if its wrong.
I wanted a cool Bugs Bunny tat on my foot when I was 18. 19, 20, 21, 22 I still thought it would be the coolest thing. Then at 23, my mind changed....and I could of licked a sewer pipe in thanks for myself not getting that tat.
Today, and for the past 8 yrs, I have wanted another tat. This time is the real tat, in respect, honor and to show pride of my native indian past. sure beats a bugs bunny tat.
Since this item last a life time, there is no rush to get one, be patient and really really REALLY think it through. Talk to others that have tats, like 30,40,50 yr olds, not just some 22 yr old kid. Talk to those that have had them for yrs, see what they look like after yrs, etc.
And most important, put them no where that they show, for a normal 9-5 job will normally not allow them and it can hurt your career for life.

If you still live in their house, then respect their wishes. You should get them if you truely want to, but make sure it's something you want because they are there for life. I waited until I was 31 before I got the 2 I have. It was worth the wait because I changed my mind from the time I was 18. Good luck!!

I would do it if you are sure you like the designs you picked out. Or maybe compromise and get one on spring break and one when you graduate. Just make sure your parents know you are serious that you are going to do it, you don't want to get kicked out of the house or anything when you get back from spring break, now that you are 18 they could do it.

i think that you should wait, you only have about two more months until school gets out right?? and you might want more time to make sure that you really want the tatoo. it will be there forever and as you get older the tattoo starts to sag!!!! just a few things to go over before you make up your mind, i sort of reget getting my tattoo at age 17 and my junior year in high school. i should have waited a bit.

DONT GIVE IN TO WHAT OTHERS THINK! THIS IS YOUR LIFE NOT theirs. do you really want one?how much is one?ask a girl or guy friend if she/he thinks if you would look good all tattooed.

Hey, you're 18 so you can do what you want with your body.
Go for it.
I have two tattoos... a little one on my ankle, and a black feminine tribal piece just above my waist (ya know, what most people call 'tramp stamps'), and I want to get more. They're so addictive!
