i had a root canal done about 2 months ago on a back molar. it has been crowned. i am having pain (not severe) that feels like it is under the tooth. i have also noticed that around the gumline (closest side to cheek) of the tooth, if i touch it it hurts and its sensitive. i am wondering if this tooth can be saved? a friend told me to see about getting an apicoectomy on it. is there a dentist here who can tell me what to have the tooth checked for? the dentist who did the root canal is one i would rather not go back to...

If you had a root canal done then the tooth should be without any nerves left, that means pain is not coming from the tooth but tissue under and around the tooth, gums, jaw.. ect.

This could mean a great many things, but most likely there is still an absess beneath the tooth, (a pocket of bacteria). A second root canal can be performed to drain an absess as an alternative. I suggest going to a specialist if you didn't the first time, but first speak to your dentist.

Sounds like your dentist didn't get all of the nerve or bacteria out. I am actually in a very similar situation at the moment. You need to make an appointment, with a new dentist probably, who will prescribe you an antibiotic. Then, depending on the severity of the situation you might have to have your root canal re done. Meaning the crown removed and they're digging around in there again...

I have had three Root Canals done. No of which hurt afterwards. My dentist was great at explaining everything in saying he told me that I should no longer feel any pain there because when a root canal is performed they actual kill the nerve at the root. So if you are still feeling pain I would guess that the nerve was not killed (or Whatever) properly. I would defenitly get it checked out. Good luck with it.

I would think you have an infection under the tooth. Dentist didn't do a good enough job getting the bacteria out. If you call the dentist they can give you a prescription for penicillin or similar that will clear up the infection.

Rinsing or washing (gargling) your mouth with warm salted water should help to ease the pain, and DON'T put your fingers in your mouth, or near that tooth, as that is the BEST way to obtain a Full abscess.

After that you need consult with a dentist.

Go to another dentist. It sounds like the crown was not set properly.
