Why is it that pickup trucks are more expensive then cars or similar in price to suv’s? It is mostly open space back there, which means less parts and material to go into the truck.

Do they break down less, engines last longer? Or is it just cause they can haul stuff?

Pickups used to be less expensive because they were "basic" vehicles, ie: no frills. They have become very popular now, though, and most people want the same luxury in, say, an F 150 that they would get in an Expedition. They are based on the same platform, so the performance and reliability will be the same, as will the cost. As for the open space, the only part it is missing is the interior trim and carpet. That's not that expensive, so, no real savings.

It is called 'supply & demand'. People are willing to pay more for a truck because it works for a living, earning it's keep, so to speak. For instance, you can rarely find a beat up old work truck for sale for less than $1000 bucks, because they are still worth that much since it can haul things. Typically, a car in the same condition would fetch around 2-3 hundred dollars max.

That sucks you do not choose yet another Chevy. i've got had 2 Silverados and the two have been wonderful. I even have 226,500 miles on my 01's unique motor and it nevertheless runs astounding, getting 21 mpg highway, and intensely very energetic. lol My ninety 4 has over 3 hundred,000 on the unique motor and tranny. If I have been to bypass outdoors of GM, i'd in all probability decide for a steer clean of, reason it particularly is my 2nd selection, for a gas engine. i'd definitly bypass Ford for diesal. you additionally can look into the Tritan or Tundra in case you will like strategies. i don't recognize lots approximately the two, yet I hear that they are good. so a techniques as existence expectancy, that relies upon in particular on you. while you're looking after your experience, it is going to final. sustain on the fluid adjustments, and verify the stages frequently, even on a greater recent one. Any motor vehicle can final an prolonged time, or crap out quickly. good success!

Its cause guys (gals) think it makes them look cool.
The hauling capacity is limited and stuff gets dirty and wet!
Buy a van. Much more practical.
Unless your going to haul high items , refrigerators, or tall wide cabinets, a van is a beer choice.
Put the items inside, close the doors ----- out of sight --- out of mind (of a thief). When you get the items where your going, its clean and ,dry.
Great for a family with kids.

I would say its because they can go more places, haul as many as a car but can also haul other stuff besides and our pickups always lasted well over 200,000 with just regular tuneups.

actually, they used higher quality parts for trucks so that they can handle more weight. The engine, trans and rear end are much stronger than those on your typical passenger car
