The everyday common folk didn't travel a hundred years ago, at least not as recreation. Vacations were unheard of other than a week at the local beach, or a week visiting relatives. Travel as we know didn't come of age until commercial airfare became affordable after WWII.
Otherwise travel was for the rich or adventurer types. It was just too expensive and people couldn't be away from work without getting fired.
Travel is great, it expands your mind and understanding of the world we live in. You will notice as you grow older, people who are well traveled are not as provincial in their thinking. They are more curious and tolerant. Good traits for all...plus it's fun.
