At any point or prison are remand/untried prisoners able to mix with tired prisoners?

Plus are there any times in which either would share a cell?

thanks

sorry that didnt make sense.

Inside prison! Are remand/untried prisoners able to mix with prisoners who have been tried. Also is it at anytime possible that remand prisoners are sharing a cell with tried prisoners?

Here in New Hampshire, individuals who are waiting for trial, sit in county jail. The inmate could be sharing a cell with another person waiting for trial or being sentenced less than a year. After trial, if they are sentenced to prison (for more than 1 year for incarceration), they are then transported to a prison facility.

When they are in prison, they go through a processing period. This is called Reception & Diagnostic (R&D).
In R&D the individual is evaluated according to crime, sentence, mental health, physical health, etc. Once they have been evaluated after a few weeks, then they are sent to a specific assigned cell and housing unit. That could be Maximum, Closed Custody, Medium, or Minimum Security. They could also determine to send the inmate to a difference facility as well.

In R&D a person who has been convicted of forgery could be sharing a cell with a murderer. But later are tranferred to the appropriate units and facility.

In county jails, every is mixed within. Some are in for the first time waiting to be sentences, some are convicted and are coming on second crimes to be sentenced, so this are mixed with first timers and old timers. Once sentence in a county jail and convicted of a felon then they are sent to a different "wedge" to wait departure. If you are in a state prison or federal prison everyone has been convicted of their crime.
