Unless you are trying to insert a hyperlink to an external/internet document (in which case you will need to include the complete URL in the hyperlink to let your computer know that you need to access the internet), it sounds like you need to create a Bookmark to hyperlink to.

Highlight the text. Insert>Bookmark. Give the bookmark a Name and click on Add. After you have created bookmarks for the headings, go to where you want your hyperlink located. Insert>Hyperlink and select Bookmarks. Selected your named bookmark. Your hyperlink will now go to the bookmark within that document.

If you want to link to another Word document, you will need to create the Bookmark in the target document (the document that you want to go to), then in the document where you want to link From insert Hyperlink, select Existing File or Web Page (on the left of the dialog box), and select your target file, then go to Bookmarks (on the right) and select the Bookmark that you want to go to.
