A man is convicted of a ghastly murder, He did the deed in front of

Maybe he was a executioner and that was his job. Maybe he killed a man right when the mayor called a reprieve in but it was too late?

The miranda rights were not read when he was arrested. There is a law requiring policemen to read miranda rights to the suspect when they are arrested. If they are not read, the judge must let the criminal go, no matter how horrible the crime.

If he was considered legally insane he won't go to jail but would end up in a mental institute until judged sane. He would then be released without having to go to jail.

They don't have any free space left in their jail. Or the convict is innocent but hiding from murderers.

He didn't read the guy his miranda warnings. The guy didn't know he could have an attorney, so they had to let him go!
