I have two greyhounds, male, 4, and female, 10. He starts eating at his bowl but then gathers it up in his mouth and carries it around the house to eat it. Food everywhere! Does it whether female is near him or not (thought she might be intimidating him - she's the dominant one) What can I do?

Put dishes at least 6 feet from one another, another thing is try putting a rubber back washable mat infront of his dish. A lot of dogs will take food and then carry to a carpeted area to eat, by have a no slip run infront of the dish it will be easy to teach/keep the dog in one area to eat

One of my 3 has always liked to do that - carry a mouthful to the living room, drop it and eat it 1 bite at a time. I don't think it's a big deal because if he doesn't clean it all up, one of the others will. I've actually had several afghans who liked to do it, too. I think they just like to be comfortable!

I work in a rescue and while I have never seen a case like this before I think I may have an answer for you. Buy a cheap wire cage. We use them when we collect dogs that are in pounds which we will then rehome. Feed him in this, that way he will have to eat in one place. Good luck.

Try feeding him out of a Kong... that may help. I have seen a greyhound do that in the past. I winder if it's a common trait?

We used to have the same problem with our Bulldog and Lab.. the only thing that has worked so far is feeding them in different rooms.
we put the "pacer" (lab )in the guest room and shut the door for his dinner time.
I think he likes it better that way.. he doest have to worry about the bulldog and isn't distracted.
Good Luck

idk why some dogs do this but its something that they do...try to train him that he can only eat at his bowl or at least around it...like teaching a child that to eat at the dinner table is proper i guess.

good luck!!!
