Try this good, free alternative http://www.openoffice.org/ as you have to pay for Microsoft Office and Word Perfect.

if you read up on open office 2 you will find that is out shines M$ Office.. and Word Perfect plus it is free..

now when you do your work in open office you can save it in any document format so that it can be read by MS Office or Word Perfect

You have already been told about open office. I just want you to know that it is one of the better ones, and you can't beat the price (free).

Try Smart Suite Millenium edition for a Good Option. Cheap, and it has good compatibility
