My wife and I disagree about giving birthday cards.
My position is that if you can't be there in person for someone's birthday, then you should send a card. But if you are going to see the person on his/her birthday (and especially if you are going to give a gift), then it doesn't make sense to also hand the person a birthday card--after all, your are right there and will be saying "Happy Birthday!" and whatever else you want to add, to the person directly, which I hope would mean more than letting a card say it for you.
My wife, however, thinks that you should hand the birthday person a card in addition to a gift.
What do you think?
