There is a dog stuck in my basement and cant get out. I have called the humane society and other places and no one will come and get the dog out. Why do people not keep up with their dogs is what I do not understand for the life of me... I do not like dogs and all the dog does is BARK!!!

I called the city to come out. Everyone I called said because the dog is in the basement they can not come out. When the dog comes out they will pick it up. Is this dumb or what?

I am really thankful for all of your answers however my last resort was to contact the police and what did they say? Nothing they can do. So the only other option is to let it die in my basement. Oh yeah a neighbor looked and it's a PITBULL. The is no joke!!! Seriously. How long will a dog last without eating or drinking?

Dont frighten the dog. If the dog does not seem like it would bite you, try the technique I use to catch a horse. Mimic it's movements it steps forward you step back so you stay at the same distance away. When It stops you stop, eventually it will tire out. When this happens talk in a soothing voice, crouch down and slowly walk torward it. Make sure you you have something you can put around the dog. This could be dangerous if the dog is agressiv though. You also should try callin the animal control center or trying to find the owner of the dog.

Please do not be afraid just because of the breed. ANY DOG in that position would be frightened. There is a great chance noone cares about it and that's why its stuck in your basement....have some compassion. Its not his fault he is the breed he is, or that no one cares, and he didn't ask to be stuck, scared, hungry and alone.Open your heart. This dog may be in your life for a reason? It sounds like you could use a furry friend?

call the police. dial 911, and tell them there is a loose dog in your basement. animal control HAS to come get it if it is not your dog. it is a potentially dangerous animal and should be treated as such.
also, the cops might shoot it.
or, depending on the breed of dog, get a bed sheet and throw it over him, knock him over into the blanket, and close it up, use it as a sack to get the dog outside.

Stuck in your basement? Animal control should come. The poor thing will get hungry and dehydrated soon. I've never heard of animal control officers refusing to do something like this.

You have to call animal control there lady. Not the humane society.
Okay if you tried that. Open all the doors and stand outside so the dog can see you. He will go outside. Then run back inside and close the door. You will rid youself of this issue.

Have you tried the police? Or the dog pound? If you are afraid of getting hurt, I would think that someone from the Public Safety department would come and help you out.

well as the saying goes, "a dogs bark is bigger than his bite"...how true this is i am not sure but from what ive seen dogs that bark are usually using that as sort of a defense because they are scared of you...if you are going to attempt to approach the dog, make sure you keep your hands lower than their head or better yet their jaw because some dogs take it that when your hand is over their head it is a sign of abuse to come, well until they get used to you!!!
good luck!!!
